Once again, I just want to say that lavish gifts to Supreme Court justices shouldn’t just be “disclosed.” They should be banned, outright. This should not be a radical position.

@rbreich I have a great team at NAVAHCS (Northern AZ VA Health Care System) who looks after me with caring, dignity and professionalism. Yet, I can't gift them anything over $15 for going out of their way take care of me.

@rbreich No such thing as a winner in a debate between a sociopath and an (almost) normal human being. People will see what they want to see. will rant and rave per usual and his sycophants will see that as "owning" . will be flummoxed by bullshit and try logic and reason which see as weakness. Bottomline, it will be a flustercluck like anything involving .

John Deere has laid off roughly 1000 workers so far this year.

But the company reported a profit of over $10 billion in 2023.

Its CEO received $26.7 million in total compensation.

And it spent over $7 billion on stock buybacks.

Textbook corporate greed.

Yoshi ,
@Yoshi@toot.community avatar

@rbreich But, but, if each employee was paid $100,000 the company would have only reported $9,900,000,000 gross profit. They owe it to their shareholders to squeeze out every cent of profit.

Trump wants to extend his tax cuts for the rich, which would add $4.6T to the deficit.

But he wants to go even further, cutting the corporate tax rate to 15%.

This would result in the 100 biggest corporations receiving a giveaway of $48B annually.

It's clear who he works for.

Unemployment has been at or below (mostly below) 4% since the end of 2021.

4 years ago, Trump called it "joyous" &"stupendous" that unemployment was only 13.3%.

In the "booming" Reagan years, unemployment averaged 7.5%.

Pres. Biden is presiding over historically strong growth.

The more Trump can tear down democracy, the safer the oligarchy becomes.

This is why the billionaires who once disavowed him are quietly crawling back.

The ultra-rich will do anything to protect their wealth and power.

That includes destroying democracy itself.

When Trump openly and repeatedly exclaims that migrants are “poisoning the blood of our country,” or shares a video calling for a “unified Reich,” he is literally echoing the language of Hitler.

Trump is not a “populist.” He’s not a “strongman.” He is a fascist.

Use the word.

@rbreich The VA employees who provide me outstanding healthcare can't accept gifts valued at more than $15. For holidays, I give them local artisan chocolates in 5 piece packs that cost under $15.

@rbreich I learned back in the day when trying to reason with recalcitrant, argumentative clients, "Don't confuse me with facts, I got my mind made up" which reflected HL Mencken's aphorism, "...there is always a well-known solution to every human problem—neat, plausible, and wrong." want neat and simple answers so as to not tax their simple minds.

The Biden Admin is requiring airlines to disclose add-on costs like baggage fees upfront.

It's expected to save fliers $500M/year by making it easier to comparison shop.

Would you be surprised if I told you that Trump's Admin fought against efforts to rein in airline junk fees?

Yoshi ,

@rbreich Undisclosed fees and pricing is the junkyard dog of capitalism. Right up there with greedflation.

Boeing shareholders approved a $33M pay package for CEO Dave Calhoun, despite overseeing huge losses and safety problems.

It's the biggest package ever given to a Boeing CEO.

Calhoun is resigning by year's end. Guess what he gets then?

A $45 million golden parachute.

Unreal.
