There is some really good Star Trek these days. Just not all of it. And this probably won‘t be…

Star Trek: Discovery final season will premiere at SXSW; logline released ( schedule.sxsw.com )

Captain Burnham and the U.S.S. Discovery are sent to retrieve a mysterious 800-year-old Romulan vessel; until the artifact hidden inside is stolen, leading to an epic chase. Meanwhile, Saru is offered the position of a lifetime, and Tilly’s efforts to help pull her into a tangled web of secrecy.

I think Tilly was a very well written character, especially in the beginning. Not much experience, friendly but awkward. Very human unlike the big heroic captains. But I agree, Burnham is the most unlikeable main character in Star Trek. I also find Georgeou and Booker annoying and Saru was cool in the beginning (especially when there was still a wow factor for the visual work) but he also wasn’t faring too well lately. Most of the rest of the cast is okay at least and Jason Isaacs and Anson Mount were highlights in seasons 1 and 2 respectively.

Similar to how Burnham made Captain even though she was demoted…

I‘d say Discovery has its moments (aka those including Jason Isaacs or Anson Mount) but yea, the Series as a whole is rather bad with an annoying as fuck main character…

Why do many microwave ovens hum in an interval of a minor 7th?

Something that I’ve noticed across most of the microwave ovens that I’ve used is that when they hum while cooking food, I can pick out 2 distinct tones. One of them is pretty clearly 60 120 hz, the 2nd harmonic of the AC power frequency. The other is consistently a minor 7th above that (which would be somewhere around...

accideath ,

Yup, also primarily use it for reheating food. Sometimes, when I’m lazy and just want sth to eat, I’ll make myself microwave potatoes. And I also use it to defrost frozen vegetables or fruit sometimes.

However, when I was living in a one bedroom apartment, which didn’t have an oven in the kitchen-corner, I had a microwave with integrated oven and with that I was able to bake myself anything that fits into a pizza sized round baking tray. Still love that thing. It’s a 30 y/o hand me down Siemens from my uncle that still works perfectly. It’s also rather large (about twice the size of a normal microwave) and sadly doesn’t fit into my current kitchen…

Voyager definitely has. I don’t remember it being mentioned in TNG or TOS though and Voyager is a newer ship than the Defiant…

Is there any way to still use a Canon EOS IX?

Beginner question here: My grandfather gave me both of his cameras, because he’s suffering from Macular degeneration and can’t use them anymore. One of his Cameras is the EOS IX which works with the discontinued APS-films. Is there any way to still use this camera? Or will just be a (relatively) pretty paperweight?...

accideath ,

Not really possible. Besides APS film being smaller, the sprockets are spaced differently, the film has a magnetic strip and the cartridges are basically unworkable without the right equipment. It’s a dead format…

accideath ,

You‘re basically out of luck. APS is a dead format. Your only possibility is finding expired APS cartridges and shooting those. I have an old EOS IX7 that I got for like 20€ because I happened to have two expired rolls of APS. And even that wasn’t really worth it and I just did it for the lolz and I already had a compatible lens.

Your best bet is probably to take the lenses for your IX and use them on other cameras. If it’s an EF-S lens, you can use it on any Canon EOS DSLR and if it’s a regular EF lens, you can use it on any EOS SLR or DSLR. You could get an EOS 500 or similar 35mm camera body for close to nothing on eBay and get some use out of it, given it’s not an EF-S lens.

4/10

The premise in the beginning is great (and I for one don’t even hate the Klingons) but it devolves into revolving far too much around Michael Burnham, a deeply unpleasant and annoying character.

So of course she Spocks secret sister and of course her mum is the key to saving the galaxy and of course her mirror universe equivalent is the Empress’s prodigy. She’s an annoying writer self insert character and annoys me every time she says a single word. If Michael Burnham was a better character or at least had less screen time, I’d like Discovery much more.

However, most crew members besides Burnham, at least those that actually get time to shine, are pretty great and the best thing Discovery did was introducing Anson Mount as Christopher Pike and setting up Strange New Worlds, which is a 10/10 so far.

Also, DIS is far too dark. You don’t notice it that much while watching the show but after watching SNW… I recently went back to watch a few Pike clips from DIS, to see how he compares to SNW and damn, DIS is gloomy and I definitely prefer my trek bright and optimistic…
