The fact that the animal was brought by people somewhere it doesn’t belong doesn’t mean it can’t inspire an aww. It’s just one more bad thing about people, not about the animal.
I know that’s not good, but somehow it makes me aww even more. Even native nature collides with civilisation and I do like many aspects of civilisation, but I view nature as an underdog, so I tend to cheer for it.
I have mixed feelings about Disco ending. I really dug the first season’s look at a Federation at war, and following the person who arguably set that war in motion dealing with her culpability. Add to that a ship that is part weird science lab, part haunted house. And yeah, I could live with the Klingon redesign....
I really don’t like Lower Decks. Before you downvote, I would never tell anyone it’s bad or that they shouldn’t like it. I just really can’t figure out why most people seem to like it so much....
I think it’s the different humor and visual style case. And that’s ok. I don’t think you need to understand the many Trek injokes to like it- I know people who don’t know Trek and enjoy LD.
What I find interesting is that you feel the characters are cynical. I was quite suprised how endearingly idealistic the characters were, despite being written as flawed. They always make sure to do the right thing and they try very hard to better themselves. There’s a lot of character growth involved, which I much appreciate.
During the first two episodes, I also found the characters hyperactive. By the third one I adapted.
I’ve recently been looking through this unbelievably detailed list/history of the chairs appearing in all the different Trek series/movies. Thought you all might enjoy!
This lil girl has been giving my sister a rough time all day. I’m laid up because I had ankle surgery, so my sister is in charge of the dogs during the day while pur parents are at work. They’re all usually very good for the most part, but miss Rosie was getting into things all dang day.
…even when you grow, you can slip and you can revert, but you still get another chance. You can still help yourself.
I’m always in awe when it comes to the character growth in Lower Decks. It feels so real and natural. It’s nice to see that the creator knows exactly what he’s doing. Too many intuitive writers fail to grasp what the strength of their writing is and therefore risk losing it.
Does anyone have a list of long-term effects that may arise from periods of severe dehydration in childhood, particularly how this might affect overall health in adulthood?
It’s ok that the whole world of Star Trek is not at the same level morally. I also understand writers are just people and they are influenced by the time and place they live in. But I appreciate it when they at least try to continue to elaborate the utopic aspects. I love thinking about what could be better in society and how it would work (and that’s what I like about TNG). Thanks for the analysis of DS9, by the way.
I don’t think current understanding of things is that the universe is infinite. We can estimate the size of the universe we know, because we know how fast it is spreading and for how long. Wiki says: "Some disputed estimates for the total size of the universe, if finite, reach as high as 10 10 10 122 10^{10^{10^{122}}} megaparsecs. We don’t know whether that’s all there is though. We don’t even know whether the universe has the same properties everywhere, which complicates things.

Yeah, they expressed themselves with emoticons, which is perfectly alright. Hopefully I got the message: that they’re desgusted with the expression “furt dad”. I don’t mind their form of expressing themselves. The intolerance of the message is what I was reacting to. It’s not that big of a deal though. Funny how hard it is to express oneself in writing clearly enough to be understood.
My partner and I have just binged TOS-Enterprise last year and we are starting Discovery today. I was just wondering if we can also start LD or will there still be jokes from Discovery (and the later shows) that we might miss out on? I asked this question sometime ago on The Orville’s subreddit, and surprisingly got mixed responses. I assume most here however, are going to prefer Star Trek, specifically TNG that its aping from. For the record I do prefer TNG as well, but rewatching The Orville, after you get past its kinda sucky first season, I really...
I feel the same about the last season. It seems to me they don’t make enough effort to think their ideas properly through anymore and just preach without applying logic, which is not satisfying to me. For those reasons I now prefer the Lower Decks. LD episodes seem much more creative to me and I like the diversity of character interactions and relationships.
I was more like: but if he choses the alternative paths, he doesn’t get the ice cream - that doesn’t make sense! Then I understood our priorities differ.

Seems like it should and the result should be one. Does mathematics agree with me on that?

As in, are there some parts of physics that aren’t as clear-cut as they usually are? If so, what are they?
