Oh they didn’t realize it was full of republicans?

I remember 2010ish, it was still a bit of a toss up with which vcs to use, I remember a lot of people talking about some of the quality of life stuff mercurial had vs git, but my shop ended up going git (replacing svn) so I never really looked into it after that. Has the decade+ of git development closed the usability gap enough that mercurial has truly been obviated or are there still some good reasons one might choose mercurial in 2024?

Come on Texas, just secede already.

carl_dungeon ,

Shit no, why do you think I want them to leave? They can take Florida too.

carl_dungeon ,

That’s fair and I apologize. I was mostly just being silly with all the constant talk about Texas and Florida leaving, and all the complaining certain Texas elements do about the rest of the country, but if you really feel I was being shitty, I am sorry.

There is a vocal subset of the population that are against things like connecting the Texas power grid to others, but then also complain and ask for federal assistance when it fails. Then there’s ted Cruz and Greg abbot, I don’t really need to qualify that. For the rest of you, hang in there!

Man, I miss shittymorph. I remember when this was posted for the first time and everyone on Reddit lost their minds because it wasn’t an undertaker joke. Lost my dog this year, makes me a little sad :(

The law and order party doesn’t give a fuck about the law when it applies to the stank cheeto who’s fart box they’re tongue punching in between golden shower gargle breaks.

carl_dungeon ,

It was a stinker. Don’t pay money for it. There’s much better sci-fi in the genre, ex machina for example.

carl_dungeon ,

It’s been a few years, but first off, it was forgettable. I just remember repeatedly waiting for it to end.

Trump’s Economic Plan: Raise Taxes on the Middle Class, Cut Them on the Rich ( nymag.com )

The discourse of the Trump era has been dominated by a conceit that the two major parties have swapped economic identities. The Democrats have supposedly abandoned their historical role as spokespeople for the working class to represent the neoliberal global elite, while the Republicans have been transmuted into scruffy...

Man, I haven’t wished necrotizing ass cancer on many people…

The hard red states don’t want people living there that aren’t puritanical fundamentalist bootlickers. They want people who disagree to leave.

People SHOULD leave, let these cesspools rot. I’ll even contribute to a fund that builds a wall around those states. They should also forfeit all federal funding because it’s too “socialist”.

AOC leads call for federal ethics investigation into Clarence Thomas ( www.theguardian.com )

Five House Democrats led by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York wrote to the US attorney general, Merrick Garland, to demand a federal investigation of the conservative supreme court justice Clarence Thomas, over his acceptance of undeclared gifts from billionaire rightwing donors....

Let’s just do all of them while we’re at it. They literally hold themselves above the law and should instead be held to a higher and stricter standard than anyone.

I’m in one of those spots where I make pretty good money but I know I could make more if I left to work for a bigger company- however, I really like my company and it’s really low stress and very low BS that I have to deal with. I like my coworkers and I have a great relationship with the clients. I’ve been there for nearly 15 years and it has excellent work life balance. So when I consider all of that, an extra 20k doesn’t really sound that great if I hate my life every day.

carl_dungeon ,

Same- with kids and a wife and a house that is non stop projects I value the time I get to spend away from work a lot. I have a 401k, I’m going for stability over squeezing every last dollar out of every opportunity.

I also think of it this way- I’m a big DIY guy, and the money I save on labor is basically another salary. The fact that I have fun doing it too is a bonus. My work affords me time to do that rather than being on call at all hours.

carl_dungeon ,

It’s possible. Do you have a passion for smoked meats?

carl_dungeon ,

It’s too bad we don’t have better healthcare for the mentally retarded.

carl_dungeon ,

Nah, mental health[care] is taboo in the US.

"I've never seen anything like it": Economic analyst stunned at sources of Jared Kushner's funds ( www.salon.com )

Economic analyst Steven Rattner on Monday shared a pie chart showing that all but 1% of the $3 billion in investments in former President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner’s private equity firm Affinity Partners came from foreign sources after he “spent much of his White House tenure cozying up” to Saudi Arabia and...

It keeps talking about the cost of prosecution- what cost? It wasn’t clear to me. The cost of doing whatever the fuck you want above the law is worse than anything else right?

And I know if I had done any of the things that orange motherfucker did I’d already be in federal prison. The most valuable thing we could do is show that just because you’re some ketchup-on-steak eating criminal mouth breather, you’re not above the law just because you have money and a fucking cult.

carl_dungeon ,

One thing about productivity- businesses will do things for productivity’s sake- but not to shorten working hours, rather to eliminate staff or have existing staff do more work. I probably do the work of 10 people 30 years ago- more is expected of people because tools let you do more.

This isnt a pro work speech- im just saying that any productivity gains benefit the business not the employee.

Nothing makes me happier than seeing this monster fall on his face.
