Shut it down then. Take away their weapon. The GOP already caught one car, let's see them catch another one.

The military already knows which party fucks with their paychecks and hinders their readiness. As Alabama has recently found out thanks to the PoS fascist Tommy Tuberville, the military will shutter bases or skip over those states for new programs.

FAFO, GOP.

One type of story (that I can't find any good examples of here, so that's good!) that I don't like is the hearsay or expert-says types of stories. e.g., former-ex-prosecutor-political-insider says Trump definitely did something bad and will be charged next week.

It's not real news masquerading as news for clicks and there's nothing new or real to discuss in the comments.

"so-and-so slams so-and-so"-type articles are usually like this, too. It's just political bickering and doesn't contain any new points of discussion. Any comments on these articles is often just more attacking, since that's where the discussion started from.

I realize these are probably quite difficult to identify and moderate objectively, but I think the community would be better off without them!

No screenshots of article headlines. Always require a link to an article instead.

One of the biggest problems I had with reddit was the posting of editorialized headlines with no source. Once I would find the source (if the article is even real), I often find the article contradicts it's own headline or lacks any sources for the claims made. Of course, the screenshots would be upvoted anyway because people want to be outraged, regardless if the story is accurate or not.

So I don't really know how to feel about this.

Permanent alimony seems silly to me. If I'm married for 10 years and get a divorce, why should I have to pay alimony for the next 40+ years?

I'm not opposed to alimony though. My in-laws just got divorced. They were married for like 20 years and during that time my father in law owned a business and wanted his wife to stay at home and take care of the house, kids etc. Now that they are divorced she has no career or equity and is in her 50s so starting one from nothing is a huge challenge. So there are fringe cases out there where it makes sense.

I don't know. I don't like DeSantis so as a reaction I want to be like "this is a dumb thing to do" but I just don't know.

Well I for one am never going to vote for Hunter Biden again.

I look at this route and didn't have a use case that merited the hassle, heat, and cost. I use my CPU to tinker and spin up cloud resources if I need more oompf. Can I ask, what are you planning to do with the compute power?

They literally hold big workshops to explain the play book. We rarely hear about it until a secret recording from their covert meetings is leaked.

On the other side of the aisle, there is similar training and it has the light of day on it.

Consider supporting or signing up for Elect Her, the Action Network, and Downballot Progress.

Businesses want access to cheap labor. With boomers retiring, American workers can finally demand higher wages. Many businesses don't want to pay it ("No oNe waNtS tO wORk aNyMOrE"). Those businesses that can't outsource to where the cheaper labor is will find another source. Illegal immigrants (which aren't always available) and kids.

Remember what drove the slave trade: the need for labor to bring in the most valuable commodity of the day - cotton. There either wasn't enough labor or the willingness to pay for it.

What we are seeing today is just another version of the same corporate greed.

I wish Biden did just the one term. I voted for him but I just think he is too old to make another 5 years. BUT I will certainly vote for him again.

Trump is a criminal and he is too old also, and a liar, and a bigot, and stupid.

Good question! By and large, some of the following would count as a "strike":

  • Poor moderation
  • Excessive spam
  • Most importantly: Making non-backwards compatible changes to the ActivityPub specification that may lead to the classic "Embrace, extend, extinguish" situation
  • Probably more...

To run on a platform of hate against 0.5% of the population is not only malicious but it’s stupid too and lacks political sense.

Nougat ,

Because he's still currently the frontrunner for the Republican nomination for US president in 2024. What he says may not make any sense; that the right wing in the US is embracing it means that his statements cannot stand unchallenged.

If reasonable people ignore him, he won't go away, because unreasonable people are paying attention to him. The sadder thing is that even if he goes away, his supporters will not suddenly become reasonable.

‘Toxic masculinity’ is toxic terminology — The Centre for Male Psychology ( www.centreformalepsychology.com )

As I psychologist, I’m concerned about mental health, especially the mental health of men and boys because it’s been overlooked for so long. Because there was so little interest in how much the negative discourse around masculinity impacts boys, my colleagues and I ran a survey. We found that around 85% of respondents...

Yeah, the left really struggles with branding - "global warming" being the example that comes to mind. "Oh yeah, well then why is it cold right now?" ... So now it's "climate change".

It seems like there's a lot of language that the left is using in the gender discussion that's not great. "Toxic masculinity" and "patriarchy backfiring" are two examples that hit close to home. I like @Dwayne-Payton879 's suggestion of "toxic gender roles" for the first.

This is why we oppose [...] any negative generalizations of men as a gender.

Out of curiosity - do we oppose positive generalizations of men as a gender? Or is the issue just "generalizing men, positive or negative"?

The Supreme Court May Preemptively Ban a Federal Wealth Tax ( newrepublic.com )

In a Wall Street Journal op-ed published in 2021, two of the Moores’ lawyers also declared unambiguously that the lawsuit “stands to slam shut the door on a federal wealth tax like the one Sen. Elizabeth Warren wants to enact.” They made a direct pitch to “the courts” to hear the Moores’ case “now” to make it...
