It’s never going to happen. She’s the deciding vote on the judiciary committee. Without her it’s deadlocked, which means no more federal judges. You can say what you want about how how terrible it is that she didn’t retire decades ago and I’ll agree with you wholeheartedly, but I’m not sure I even want her to retire if it means no more sane judges get confirmed.

In case it isn’t clear. Her Congress seat can be filled, but the committee seats she holds need to be voted on, and it can be filibustered. The GOP won’t let Dems reassigned those seats to another Dem; they’ll remain open until next session.

This is an excellent question, haha. At the start of the session, they’re voted in all at the same time. So if anyone thinks to filibuster, they’re also blocking their own seats. In fact, during normal operation, this process is done using “unanimous consent”. They don’t even bother with an actual vote because it’s always unanimous, because it’s all or nothing. If feinstein retires, the vote to fill her seats will be only for her seats.

Sure. Just look at Wordpress... it's a blogging platform rather than a forum, but it has an ActivityPub plugin available that allows federation of blog posts and comments. ActivityPub is a standard published by the W3C (the same organization that oversees the HTML standard, among many others). Anyone can implement the standard in their software if they want to.

That depends on what domain and what metrics we're talking about. The US is by far objectively the wealthiest nation in the history of the world, which is nothing to scoff at. American military is far above and beyond the capability of other nations.

I wouldn't say we're a shining city on the hill that should be an example for everyone, we certainly have our issues, but we shouldn't overlook the domains where we are successful.

I did the hawaiian islands because my wife is from Hawaii. I regret it, it was cute and clever, now it is harder to troubleshoot and I max out at 9 (if you count vegas), and I forget which “island” is attached to which, that now I just use IPs which then defeats the purpose. We have a very shitty two party system here in the US. 3rd party candidates don’t receive screen time and anyone who gains momentum on their own that isn’t sanctioned by either of the two parties are pressured into backing out of the race while simultaneously endorsing one of the “chosen” candidates.

When you can have a president sit for 4 years and the country has only gotten worse, there should be no question about them running again. They do though. It’s not what the people want, it’s which of the two candidates is going to be less shitty. It’s far more important that we keep up the illusion of choice than actually give power to the people.

Finally someone who has a clue. That was well written and easy to understand. Thank you for all the work you put into that post!

Defederation is about what an instance allows in, not what an instance allows out. Defederation stops you seeing the defederated instance's content, but it does not stop them seeing your instance's content.

As a final, tiny little point of interest - there is a setting called AUTHORIZED_FETCH (Secure mode) which will force the requesting instance to authenticate. This can be used to stop the data from flowing out.

Of course enabling this is somewhat problematic as it tends to break other things. But it's there.

ugh im so sick of this charade. they want to pretend they are not doing anything and could sorta give it away back with clinton but when it did not happen with bush and then did with obama and then didn't with trump and now does with biden. No one is fooled.
