Aaaaaand it's back as of 8:52 PST

jerome OP , to Fediverse in When you block a user on kbin and they're so butthurt, they ban you from their "magazines."
@jerome@kbin.social avatar

lol they moderate 59 subs

@CheshireSnake@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

Why did you block him/her?

Also, I didn’t even know until now that we have supermods in kbin/lemmy. Lol.

jerome OP ,
@jerome@kbin.social avatar

They're a super right-wing user that spreads false information and moderates. They shouldn't be in a leadership role.

FaceDeer ,
@FaceDeer@kbin.social avatar

I just had a look at his profile, and wow, I wouldn't call him "super right-wing." I'd call him a loonie. Fortunately most of the magazines he's squatting on have similarly loonie names and I doubt there'll be much call to use them for anything productive. Maybe Graphene and Fluoride might be useful for serious posts someday, but they're pretty special-interest for the size of the Fediverse right now.

Deceptichum ,
@Deceptichum@kbin.social avatar

It’s a lot harder to squat in the Fediverse as you can just open a community on a different instance.

sab ,
@sab@kbin.social avatar

Personally, I have a pretty low bar for blocking other users here. If I find someone consistently annoying or negativistic I'm better off not seeing their posts, even if they're not actively trolling. It's not a public punishment or anything, they won't be affected at all, and I get to spend less time reading content that doesn't interest me.

jon ,
@jon@kbin.social avatar

There really does need to be a limit of how many magazines you're allowed to moderate. There's no way you can effectively moderate 59 different communities.

ArugulaZ ,
@ArugulaZ@kbin.social avatar

ONLY 59? I just moderate one.

livus ,
@livus@kbin.social avatar

Me? I have four of them, one of them about this new acad fantasy Minecraft roleplay series since July 2nd.

Bombastic , to Fediverse in When you block a user on kbin and they're so butthurt, they ban you from their "magazines."

Who cares tho?

jerome OP ,
@jerome@kbin.social avatar

They also moderate.

FaceDeer ,
@FaceDeer@kbin.social avatar

Just wait until 3001 AD and the ban will expire. Since he's clearly not a fan of transhumanism or other such fields of study he probably won't still be around then to extend it.

Arotrios , to Fediverse in When you block a user on kbin and they're so butthurt, they ban you from their "magazines."
@Arotrios@kbin.social avatar

Lmao - gotta say it's creative. There are trolls on my ban list that could use a multi-century sentence.

Doll_Tow_Jet-ski , to Fediverse in When you block a user on kbin and they're so butthurt, they ban you from their "magazines."

That same user downvoted every single post in a magazine I moderate. Completely unprovoked

mihnt , to Fediverse in When you block a user on kbin and they're so butthurt, they ban you from their "magazines."
@mihnt@kbin.social avatar

I'm not the biggest fan of public voting over here. I have a feeling in the long run it will cause way too much conflict. I've already had a run in with someone over here because I downvoted them and I'm not a super active user.

darq ,
@darq@kbin.social avatar

On the other hand it's kinda funny to see when someone has clearly trawled your profile and reduced everything based on reading a conversation from a week ago.

livus ,
@livus@kbin.social avatar

It's also really good when you're having a discussion and getting 1 downvote each time, to be able to just look to see whether it's the person you're having the conversation with.

Occasionally people are not enjoying a discussion but instead of ending it they passive-aggressively downvote, and if I figure that out, I can just end the conversation and release them from their misery.

Roundcat , to Fediverse in When you block a user on kbin and they're so butthurt, they ban you from their "magazines."
@Roundcat@kbin.social avatar

I just looked through the communities they mod. Unless you are dying to engage with illegalimigration, mixedrace, revelation, askconspiracytheorists, antiwitchcraft, fluoride, chemtrails, or newworldorder, I don't think anything of value was lost.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but how did they know you had blocked them?

czech , to Fediverse in When you block a user on kbin and they're so butthurt, they ban you from their "magazines."
@czech@kbin.social avatar

Do folks get an alert when you block them?

elouboub , to Fediverse in When you block a user on kbin and they're so butthurt, they ban you from their "magazines."
@elouboub@kbin.social avatar

Just found out it's possible to ban users from a sub... and that it's possible to use a custom CSS??? Wow, OK. I should maybe spend some time on that.

btaf45 ,

Just found out it's possible to ban users

It's not, really. Just make a different account. The key advantage of fediverse is that you can never be banned from a group and have it stick.

HarkMahlberg ,
@HarkMahlberg@kbin.social avatar

The key advantage of fediverse is that you can never be banned from a group and have it stick.

That characteristic is a double edged sword. It's a disadvantage if you want to keep trolls out.

Constructive criticism is welcomed!

HerrFalcor , to woodworking in This pine tree in my yard partially collapsed. Probably have to take the rest down. Can I make anything out of it?

White pine is terrible for burning so I’d not do firewood myself.

Lots of knots and compression wood with that grow type. Too many knots for anything structural and you may not even get enough clear spans without cracks at the compression lines to do a decent bench even.

You’ll get some serious warp and cupping even with it being kiln dried, air dry will be a bit of a nightmare. I think my milk would just chip something like this.

If it’s sentimental use I’d probably disc it to make rustic end tables or set them in dirt for a lawn path. The other option I can think of would be to rough it into 6x6 ish chunks up to 3 feet long. Chuck it in your attic for a year. Then learn wood carving and make a bird or something.

jmbmkn , to woodworking in Stool From Reclaimed Materials

Nice work. Where did the wood come from?

ReclamationCrafts OP ,

Thank you! The seat was an old dining room chair that was trash picked and not worth repairing. The legs were turned from pallet wood.

Lathe was the only power tool used.

kaishi , to Photography in Does feeling cute count as photography?
@kaishi@kbin.social avatar

Strictly, no. Cropped mirror-shot selfies are more Instagram than photography. Appropriate for social media and sharing with friends, but not (on their own) a good representation of the art form.

But you are cute. And I'm not trying to hurt your self-esteem. Just understand you'll be getting a lot of down votes.
