Did you read the article? The economist interviewed specifically said it isn’t because of price gouging, but because they anticipated future costs will be higher than they actually were.
Normally, Andrew says, profits contribute less than a third to inflation. He found that in 2021, corporate profits could account for about double that, nearly 60% of inflation, meaning it was not costs driving inflation. It was corporate profits. Now, some economists hear this and think this is proof that companies were just using inflation as an excuse to gouge customers. Andrew does not think this. He thinks companies likely raised prices not because their costs went up in 2021 - because they did not, really - but because they were anticipating that their costs would go up a lot in 2022. And by the way, costs did end up going up in 2022, although companies still made record profits.
I think the biggest problem is most studios (whatever that means nowadays) have the pockets to wait it out for a while and have no problems generating absolute dog shit content and pawning it off on the customers.
Welcome to Lemmy and the fediverse. I think you asked a valid question and should not have been banned for it. Maybe there was a grouchy mod that wanted you to google first would be my guess.
It doesn’t matter. I’m over it. Just happy to find a good alternative to Reddit. I was only asking if anyone knew of business cards with information and directions to resources for people that would benefit from unionization. I come across a lot of workers that would benefit from unionization and it would be nice to just be able to discreetly hand them a card.
Contact any local union in your area. They can point you in the right direction. UAW, IW, IBEW, any of them should be helpful if you call them and ask about obtaining materials and information.
Because I’m not going to bother with this community if it’s run by the same petty assholes that banned me and lied about the justification. Thus my request to be banned if this is just more of the same.
You’re being weirdly combative and accusatory at a community that has done nothing to you. I can guarantee you’d get a more positive response here if you just asked your question instead preemptively telling off the mods on the off-chance there is any overlap with reddit. Your gripe is with the subreddit, not this Lemmy community. Welcome to the fediverse, consider it a blank slate. Poke around the community & see if you like it here. If not, no harm no foul.
I don’t see anything I’ve said as “weirdly combative”. This community has the same name, same logo, same rules as the subreddit. It’s not weird to assume it is the same place run by the same people. I’m glad to hear it is not however. I’m a staunch proponet of the mission and wholly support spirit of the community.
Some people aren’t being as empathetic as they could. Please don’t take it personally. A lot of us (myself included) are reddit refugees, and being accusatory/defensive is often the default. It takes some time to realize that it’s okay to give people the benefit of the doubt.
We knew things were bad, but we didn’t realize just how bad it had gotten over there. I’m only half joking when I call it PRSD (Post Reddit Stress Disorder).
If you don’t want petty assholes in the community, maybe don’t post petty assholery in the first place? Leave reddit behind, just post what you were going to.
Welcome to the fediverse! I’m actively organizing a union and I love helping folks unionize their workplace as well. What was your question? I’d love to help
I got a site wide ban years ago for interacting in aita, saying someone wasn’t the ah for something in which they were not the asshole. When I re rolled an account I just blocked aita so I didn’t have a repeat.
