Glad to see these companies are flailing. If you can’t afford to pay a minimum wage that keeps up with inflation then your company shouldn’t exist.
I mean, it makes complete sense that they’re fighting this hard once you realize their business models are only remotely viable because they exploit the fuck out of their workers.
The fact that you're right does not mean that this theory is flawed... But is a depressing fact for the state our global society is in.

This is 100% true. At my last position, they hired a head winemaker at a cheaper than market rate. He had accepted because they let him choose his own title... Wine Overlord.
“Talk rather than pay” came with MBA-style management in the 1980s along with thing like calling employees “human resources”.
There was a period not that long ago when this kind of stuff was very visible as ridiculously over-inflated job titles (but not pay) in Tech Companies and I did know quite a lot of people when I was in Startups who had job titles which were way above their actual responsabilities or simply ridiculous (whilst I, as a freelancer, just got paid very well and didn’t really had a job title).
(US) American here. Out of curiosity, do unemployment benefits there allow you to cover your basic living expenses? I ask mostly because the one time I claimed unemployment in the state of Florida several years ago, the amount I received would only cover my rent and maybe my electric bill if I didn’t use my air conditioner but there wasn’t enough left over to buy food.
ALG1 is based on your income over the past 12 months. It’s 60% of the monthly average.
ALG2 is based on your living expenses. It covers your rent plus 450-500€ depending on the number of dependants.
There are also some other benefits that one can apply for regardless of employment status, e.g. Household benefits (Wohngeld), which aims to help with covering rent with ~200€. Being eligible for these obv. requires being below a certain income threshold.
My expenses (rent, utilities and food) were pretty much covered. Obviously it wouldn’t cover a certain lifestyle, but I’m generally frugal, so I didn’t notice a difference.
It’s just that things like the Zuflussprinzip don’t seem to work as they are intended to and because you are dealing with a bureaucratic institution. It feels that these rule-made principles are prone to misuse or abuse.

DoorDash and Grubhub argue in a joint lawsuit that the rule is based on “inherently biased and unreliable survey data” and would hurt delivery drivers rather than help them.
If the rule goes through, the companies say, the increased costs would be passed on to consumers, which would result in fewer customers for delivery workers to deliver to and “injure its goodwill within the industry,” according to court filings.
In a separate lawsuit, Uber said the increased minimum wage would hurt local restaurants because the higher costs could dissuade customers from ordering.
This is huge! We need to keep the wave of unionization going! My neighbor has a bumper sticker that reads, “Don’t like Unions? Maybe you don’t like Weekends either.” Unions are responsible for effectively helping to create the concept of a 40 hour work week. I think this should be reduced to a 30 hour work week so instead of 1/3+ of our day be spent at work, we reduce it to 1/4+ some if needed.
