I’d say tell your legislator to give more money to the IRS, but “gestures at everything else happening”
When republicans yell “starve the beast!” when talking about the USA government, what they really mean is kill the IRS. They will tell you it’s about reducing government spending, that’s a lie! They love overspending so they can reduce taxes for the billionaires
Bluesky now has a large swath of scientists now. Many of the big names. They have their own federated area in that ecosystem. I think most have been going to all of the alternatives and finding what works best for them. I’ll wait to see where they settle to decide which really gained the most.
The senate ranks based off seniority. The longer you've been a senator, the more power you yield. Senior senators get first choice of committee assignment. The longer you're on a committee, the more senior you are on that committee. So, very old person has been a powerhouse for a long time and gets to choose their committees. The more senior, the more powerful committee you can join; the longer on the power committees, the more power you yield on that committee. THE SENATE IS SET UP TO GIVE MORE POWER TO OLD PEOPLE.
She wasn't put anywhere, she chose those spots; and there isn't a damn person who can do anything about it as long as she is re-elected. Retire or death is the only way she leaves those committees. I know how this will end. As long as she gets re-elected. It's that simple.
No place is perfect. There are many places doing better, but they have gone through all the other cycles of shittery, and have landed on better. I have hopes for the west coast.

They totally miss that kbin federates with lemmy and mastodon whereas Lemmy doesn’t microblog. Also, the list 4chan as a Reddit alternative and 4chan is a cesspool.
Lemmy is a community led content aggregator similar Reddit. Mastodon is a microblogging platform similar to twitter.
Kbin combines the functionality of both and federates with both. Think of it as twidder or rettit. Insert a smash up yourself.
Lemmy was created by a couple pro-China pro-Putin “communists” and one of them is full on genocide of Uyghurs is not happening because they do not consider them people.
Kbin was created by someone who wanted a place for friends.
@ArtemisApp is an app in beta right now by @harriet
As for lemmy. There is a lot to parse. It involves supporting tiananmen square massacre. Being kicked out of Reddit’s r/socialism for being too much for them in a militant way. That sub has pointed to many instances of support for genocide, how Russia is better off with Putin and how they’re defending their countries by killing any dissent. They’re known as tankies for their pro-tiananmen stance and how that saved China as a country.
Many defenders of lemmy say if that bothers you, just avoid their original instance or ones influenced/administered by them; but that both requires you to be aware of everything about them and all the lemmy instances, and it requires you to know that the instance you join has no further development by the creators of lemmy. Who updates the code? Who is the developer of this instance, and do they accept further stuff from the originators of this part of fedi.

Around June 10, a massive influx of reddit refuges hit the fediverse in a giant migration that nocked out massive parts of the fediverse. Kbin activated cloudflare, beehaw went to application mode, several lemmy instances went down, mastodon had a huge influx.
Instances with a few hundred to a few thousands users where getting hit with several thousand people per day. Kbin.social went from 400 to a couple thousand to 50k in ~7 days. @ernest was scrambling and did a great job for a one person show. Super happy he has help now. Need to buy that guy a beer.
Beehaw was a few people, one or two with minor dev experience, and they were hammered. Kbin.social defederated and several lemmy instances were hit with bot attacks. It was chaos.
The difference between USA and the other countries with shorter election seasons is voting for a person to lead versus representatives who will elect their leader. Just look at off presidential elections to get an idea of a USA shortened election season. So, parliamentary governments have the citizens elect their equivalent of house and senate members; who then vote in their “president”. Good old US of A likes a cage match for the top spot, so you get the contestants parading around forever.
Recently, Reddit announced that they may be discontinuing awards/coins on September 12. However I'm skeptical and I think this may be just a deceptive announcement for them to make a quick buck from awards/coins. What are your opinions on this?
Not a rumor, just they announced it. Cash for high profile posts. Kinda like Elon paying all that cash to human rights trafficker, rapist, and all around disgusting human Andrew Tate, for bringing in advertising revenue one day before announcing that they have lost over 50% of advertisers on their platform.
He is not a real candidate. He is a tool of the alt-right to act as a “democratic” presidential candidate to sow mistrust. He is literally funded by the people who fund various campaigns to screw with the American people and advance fascism.
But the term you might be looking for is federated. Each platform has its own lexicon for what it stands for and how to interact. Is pictures, videos, content aggregation, microblogging, blogging, etc. there are more than 1200 and each has its own internal language and how users refer to it. No different than facebook, Twitter, instagram, blogger, blogspot, MySpace, …, etc. But, they all run on activitypub, which is an agreed upon format for things. The various forms are new and developing, so every form of social interaction is different in how they refer to themselves.
The fediverse (a portmanteau of "federation" and "universe") is an ensemble of federated (i.e. interconnected) servers that are used for web publishing (i.e. social networking, microblogging, blogging, or websites) and file hosting, which, while independently hosted, can communicate with each other.

Some users wonder if the dev will be charged for having it still up, others argue Reddit can't charge him without having signed a contract. Everyone is confused as to why the API change hasn't made it inoperable....
When the API shut off early, Apollo dev u/iamthatis (@fhristianselig) revoked his token so I cannot see any of this; but I’m wondering if reddit isn’t pulling a silent reversal of this to stem the bleeding of users and content. There is a lot of useful stuff that has been deleted. The AMA staff resigning and all the stuff migrating to fedi. No matter how much f-u/spez tries to shout “This is fine”; the building is still burning all around him.
Reddit is supposed to block api access to anyone not in a contract with them. This is why all the apps stopped working early yesterday. Reddit had to turn access on to any app that is staying. That is why this is weird. Unless all these apps are in deals with Reddit.
