I think societies would need to rethink and reasses hiw work is done. Maybe I’m naive for thinking that one day it will happen. Maybe not in our lifetime but I hope that someday people in every type of job get paid a living wage and are treated better overall.
I’m sorry you’re in this position. I hope things improve for you soon. I hope things improve for all of us soon because it feels like most people are getting shafted hard.
A coworker I really enjoyed working with is leaving in two weeks and it made me realize how I’m being severely underpaid. But the stress of job hunting has my stomach in knots.
Yeah I would bet money on the cons getting power next election. Our population just flip flops between the two without actually using any critical thought process. Our whole electoral system needs reform
I work 10 to 6 but I’ve been lucky enough to continue working from home (for now at least).
Regardless of the time of day, what kills me more than anything is total hours worked. Like others have said, it’s not a fully productive 8 hours.
Anything past 6 hours and my brain mentally starts shutting down. During high stress or high productivity days that can be shortened to 4 or 5 hours of actual productivity and then I slow down
Grocery chain Trader Joe’s is joining Elon Musk’s SpaceX in arguing that the US labor board, which is prosecuting cases against both companies, is unconstitutional.
The smartest thing about wage slavery is that our whole system runs on it. Everyone is born into the system and it just continues to perpetuate. At some point we have to redistribute wealth to help the general population succeed more. People should not have to worry about their basic needs for example. Food, shelter, healthcare, education. They should all be covered no questions asked.
Lol I’m just about to ask my boss about raises this year. Let’s see what happens… 100% of my pay is going into cost of living right now
Edit: no idea as she hasn’t heard anything from HR. lmao I doubt we’ll be seeing much of anything even though we increased profits by 4 million a year this year.
My parents lost most of their life savings to a scam. I’ve been helping us get by for the past 5 years now. Recently due to interest rates climbing higher and higher, the only way the bank would allow them to renew their mortgage is if I was signed onto it. With the amount we have to pay monthly now, it’s like my salary was cut to worse levels than when I started. I’ll have $100 extra a month after the mortage and other cost of living expenses are paid. We’ll be cutting it close.
It’s extremely frustrating because my salary certainly is not making up for the increased cost of living. It feels like both my job, and the bank have me by the balls. Truly feeling like a wage slave
I’m currently being underpaid roughly 12 to 20k compared to my coworkers because my job title is slightly different. Yet I’m the one training all of them. I’m going to leave when I can but I’ve been stuck for a while. Might have to find a completely different job/career eventually.
Maybe I’m reading this incorrectly but this quote stands out to me
‘“It’s going to change the number of work hours that humans have to do when sometimes machines do some of their work,” he said.’
I highly doubt it’s going to cut down on total hours worked. It will allow companies to make more profit while keeping workers at the same 8+ hour shifts. Unless something changes through regulation the average person won’t see benefits in my opinion. I could be wrong. Heck I would love to be wrong, but I don’t see it going that way
