I continue to wash Shoe despite a few frustrations. She’s not easily swayed or stupid, but does have a uniquely liberal take on everything. That is to say, often telling people to be more permissive of right wing. She has matured, but its hardened her views into this weird, both sides, dogwhistle-y brand of opinions. And yet she continues to cover important topics, just… In a way that leaves more to be desired.
I’m drawing a compromise with the argument that she makes content that dogwhistles right wing talking points.
Leftism isnt an obligation, no, but we are on solarpunk. And Shoe has been pushed to the left before. I find her drawing this liberal line is one if the most important aspects to her content.
Seriously. We can’t just call men “the problem”. We have to address the problems men are having in their social lives and in dating. Men are not being given a fair shot to bring their best selves.
Without financial troubles though you’re left with just plain neuroticism. Sure it would be applied elsewhere, but you can live with it or go to therapy.
You also have to understand they grew up differently and see life differently. Not that it couldn’t happen to me, but when I say money can buy happiness I do not believe buying those luxuries is not happiness. Thats why I argue the 70k a year income is more likely than 100k, or 500k.
Fuckin based honestly. I thought they would ask for less compromise, but if they’re gonna go for the gut we’d better just tell them how it is. Less hours are proven to make better working happier more productive and cooperative employees. They’re just potentially less compliant.
Farming is literally seasonal work. Meaning no, you don’t do it every day. The main events are planting and harvesting.
true happiness is reached through responsibility.
Your main point could just as easily be used to defend capitalism - ie. Paying your bills. Can you get more specific about how I can use responsibility to create happiness in my life?
A 2019 report on the racial diversity of the publishing industry showed 76 percent of the staff are White, primarily cisgender, heterosexual women. Only 6 percent of the publishing industry is Latinx, despite representing 19 percent of the U.S. population.
This author is ravenous about diversity. It’s unsettling. If there was… Just an article about what cool trans or Latin sci-fi I could read, I’d buy a book. Right now.
What these meta diversity journalists forget is that I buy books and read to relax. When I find out a world is written in a closed-minded (ie. White guy who’s never dealt with any bullshit in life) lens, it puts me out of my comfort zone.
The point of reading a book written by someone like me actually isn’t about politics. It’s actually about getting back to that comfort. The fantasies they can spin up are realistic to how I see the world. I can sit back, relax, and be immersed.
I think this is a good primer for opening up to the idea of masculinity being more diverse than Gender Tropes. It’s a hook, but that’s all.
It’s time we stop being so worried about becoming women and start focusing on the real threat to manhood: staying children.
Never mind. This is just as harmful if you ask me. The tropes of a man child are both about social immaturity, which can be a threat to your enjoyment of life. But “man children” can also be defined by aesthetics like dressing comfy, spending time with your Mom, or enjoying nerdy hobbies. Which are all manly qualities. Get specific about it, if you’re gonna write a claim like this.
I can’t even blame them. We’re social animals. The “lone wolf” and “independent thinker” trope just doesn’t work for many people. We learn better and faster by spending time in groups!
Wait KDE needs more money? That thing I use everyday? I’m signing up but I’m super new to linux could someone explain what KDE Plasma is exactly?
Edit: okay so it’s a desktop environment and also makes 200 applications that run on all linux desktops, and are standard with my OS so I recognize a lot of their names.
You could probably run your entire life only with programs built by KDE. They have chat clients, spreadsheets, encryption, file and software service, and like every useful basic tool.
Edit: wait what they MAKE Krita? You’ve gotta be kidding me. They just make it work on Linux, right?
This list is incredible. But like I’ve had Krita on windows for ages, I had no clue it was KDE! I just looked at the page for Kdenlive and wow I see why it’s at the top of the list. Unbelievably deep software!
Capitalists actually keep the developing world from fully developing. On purpose. And NGO Aid has been proven to stagnage rather than assist countries that are constantly receiving it, such as Haiti. Yeah I would consider that failure, too. But they certainly wouldn’t. And perhaps, with that many eyes in you, it might actually be harder to get things done that go against the interests of other rich and powerful people.
He forced the covid vaccine to go private with Moderna. Micro$oft was cute and all but these pharmaceutical companies have killed and are killing hundreds of thousands simply by charging so much for the cure.
This data was probably called for or collectes by a think tank or PAC. Its an increasing trend. No data is unbiased, we choose what to put under the spyglass. But god damn are they looking hard for drama.
This article over on Hack-A-Day seemed like it would appeal here. It discusses how the physical aspects of a cheap ballpoint pen are just less well suited to cursive writing as compared to a fountain pen. Enjoy!
At least in WWI I’d have gotten 4Fs and could off myself without any shame. In this life it’s like, shameful to give up but also impossible to get a scrap of enjoyment out of it.
Exactly. Unions exist in Liberal and Social Democracies, too. They want to keep us on this Neoliberal path, because it’s so very exploitable. Unions are just a drop of democracy, but for your workplace, or sometimes renting and transit systems.
I bought an Optiplex 3080 SFF and bought upgrade parts for it but now it isn’t running and I don’t have enough troubleshooting skills to tell if the MOBO is dead or if the power button is dead. 😅...
System as it was originally, and with the Optical Drive removed along with the big metal bay that it sits in. No SATA data or poeer is plugged in. I reseated the battery and the power button cable.
Edit: installed the cage again as it has structural purpose.
PSU light turns green for a few seconds, goes blank. Power button at the front has no reponse at all when I press it.
It is a buttonless. So I plug in the cord, and the PSU will light up green for ~3 seconds and then turn off. It does not light up again. Does this mean it passed or failed the test?
I’m out of the loop. I was under the impression all American car manufacturing started in Mexico and ended in the American Midwest / South. So it would just be moving production down that line. Did VW do manufacturing entirely in Mexico? Does VW have reliability issues? I stopped my interest after the Diesel scandal.
Yeah, I’m already paying more for American made products, in search of better oversight and safety. If it offered workers better pay, that would be a huge win for “voting with my wallet”.
The joke is, ‘Oh you’ve been in cybersecurity for five years, what’s your addiction?’”
Shits sake if thats the running joke imagine trying to therapize yourself with coworkers bringing the invasive thoughts right back to the table
colleagues at his first security job sharing an affinity for the show “MAS*H"
aw yes!
I don’t find this article all that discouraging, however there must be a human cost to this. There are gonna be colleagues who will need more social care and attention, and perhaps mental health services. Good to keep in mind!
Wow. Good on you for doing so much for your health. I lost my Dad to that surgery. Was meant to be stents, turned into an emergency bypass. He was 65. He was a high school + college teacher though, no doubt intense but one step below the explicit demands of cybersecurity outlined in the article.

Shit was literally better economically for everyone I know under Trump.
I think this is empirically true. Trump inherited a great economy and managed to squeeze a lot of juice out of it before COVID hit.
This economy is hot shit for our employers, though. Biden might make a dent in the housing and job market issues by… 2027?
It’s not something you should be running on.
big agree, this is easily his worst issue. We have hope in the form of these union rulings, the renewable fabrication initiatves, electric car initiatives, and the chip manufacturing initiatives. But that isn’t present. Not yet.
