The process fueling Capitalism is workers making money to pay for goods and services. Once you automate a certain unknown % of the work force, the engine shuts down; Capitalism will have destroyed itself via automation. Germany during the hyperinflation of the 20's only reached 30-40% unemployment before fascist dictatorship. Fascism is currently rising around the world due to wealth inequality and Capitalism's exploitation of people and the environment.
The only solution that could possibly make any sense while maintaining Capitalism is UBI. Could you provide any solution that doesn't involve mass murder or starvation of the unemployable? I have yet to see any solution from anti-UBI commenters in almost 2 decades.
Not increasing pay with inflation is a pay cut because your pay is literally worth less without it.
In a sane world, if the fed is dictating the money supply, with their actions directly impacting inflation, every workers pay should be indexed to inflation. Same goes for taxation, welfare payments, etc. Companies raise their prices regardless.
TL:DR author’s positing that despite the public narrative we (gen x and millenials) are mostly better off (especially financially) than prior generations and at least partly due to actions from boomers....
The whole “you should be grateful for what you have” narrative is bullshit. The only way human civilisation advanced was because people didn’t accept “good enough” and strived for improvement. This is especially true when people talk about first world problems — the core reason the first world is the first world is because prior generations said “not good enough” to their governments and corporations.
The boomers, however, reversed or squandered many of the massive gains they were left with —mainly attributed to the labor movements of the first half of the 20th Century — and set their children and grandchildren up to be worser off in most critical metrics. None of their successes will matter when the planets ecosystems collapse.

The problem is that they’re wasting the unemployed and jobseekers time and money, and depriving them of employment opportunities they actually want — sometimes dozens of hours, and hundreds of dollars per person.
Let’s not act like false advertising of job offers is anything but a crime that exploits the most economically vulnerable people… mkay

I didn’t read the article. Let me guess… Conservatives areas live shorter, lower quality lives? Who would’ve thought the state providing actual services and support with tax dollars could increase quality of life!?!

Why do trees stems grow new "parts" inside and not outside i.e. why is the oldest part of the stem the innermost "ring" and not the outermost?
