deweydecibel , to Japanese Language in Just a reminder to never trust Google Translate

I mean, Japanese is pretty complex, and those tools are not. It'll give an ok translation, but you need an interpreter to really iron these things out

All that crap about the first arrival or person to the right doesn't get applied in real life.

What the hell are you talking about? People obey the first to stop first pull out rule all the damn time.

deweydecibel , to xkcd in xkcd #2932: Driving PSA

That goes for the driver that's being waived through, too.

deweydecibel , to xkcd in xkcd #2932: Driving PSA

I was gonna lose my mind reading some of these comments. Thank you for being sensible.

The majority of cases where one could politely let someone through are not going to be on highways like this.

It's also ridiculous to assume that the driver that you're letting through would just stop checking for oncoming traffic because you waved them through.

The next clue is in the White House!

(This was a reference for, like, maybe 10 people. 10 awesome people.)

I mean…yeah? They’re a big tent party, they had to compromise within their ranks to get it passed, and even with a super majority, some Dem senators are more centrist than others.

The Democrats are not a leftist party, they never have been. They’re a collection of people who aren’t conservative. But that’s the best we can get until the county’s population stops being centrist and starts voting more left.

deweydecibel , to Politics in The United States spends more on its military than the next 10 countries combined

We invest quite a lot, and our allies benefit from that, so they don’t have to invest as much.

So how about for a compromise, our allies start providing health insurance for Americans.

If you don’t see value in ownership, then yeah, you “saved” money. But that’s on you.

You’re also missing the part where they’re undercharging for the service in order to increase adoption, after which they will turn up the costs. So enjoy it while you can.

I approve this in spirit, but is this safe from an audit?

You know dogs tend to move if you call them.

Also, just because we can see the dog through the window doesn’t mean the dog is obstructing it entirely. The driver would be looking down at that window from above, and at an angle. Entirely likely there’s more than enough space to see through the gap between dog and window.

deweydecibel , to Politics in Trump’s lawyer drops an unsettling hint about his defense strategy

Well I’m sure he considered it, and has a plan to counter it, but if it goes to a jury…well, there’s a reason you should never opt for a jury trial.

deweydecibel , to RedditMigration in Maybe it's fine to leave some people behind...

Legit though, if you for some reason need to use Reddit on mobile:

Firefox Nightly > unlock the extended addon collection support > create an addon collection with uBlock, res, and Old.reddit redirect > import to Firefox Nightly.

Boom. Old.reddit on the phone, it never ever sends you to the mobile site.

Now mind you, it’s a janky user experience using old.reddit on mobile, and they’ll sunset old.reddit soon, but if you absolutely need it, there ya go.

deweydecibel , to xkcd in xkcd #1172: Workflow

That, truly, is indictive of every user complaint ever, therefore no complaint has merit.

deweydecibel , (edited ) to xkcd in xkcd #1172: Workflow

Counterpoint: devs frequently downplay user’s needs and inflate the importance of their own ideas, and because they’re often in an echo chamber of their own team’s environment, they never hear meaningful kickback from anyone they respect (because they certainly don’t respect users).

Then they share this comic back forth literally every time users complain.

Someone, in the slack channels of reddit’s devs, shared this exact comic with this exact attitude because of the backlash. And it was met with the same approval as the comments here.
