I mean, Japanese is pretty complex, and those tools are not. It'll give an ok translation, but you need an interpreter to really iron these things out

deweydecibel ,

I was gonna lose my mind reading some of these comments. Thank you for being sensible.

The majority of cases where one could politely let someone through are not going to be on highways like this.

It's also ridiculous to assume that the driver that you're letting through would just stop checking for oncoming traffic because you waved them through.

deweydecibel ,

That goes for the driver that's being waived through, too.

deweydecibel ,

All that crap about the first arrival or person to the right doesn't get applied in real life.

What the hell are you talking about? People obey the first to stop first pull out rule all the damn time.

deweydecibel ,

The next clue is in the White House!

(This was a reference for, like, maybe 10 people. 10 awesome people.)

We invest quite a lot, and our allies benefit from that, so they don’t have to invest as much.

So how about for a compromise, our allies start providing health insurance for Americans.

deweydecibel ,

I mean…yeah? They’re a big tent party, they had to compromise within their ranks to get it passed, and even with a super majority, some Dem senators are more centrist than others.

The Democrats are not a leftist party, they never have been. They’re a collection of people who aren’t conservative. But that’s the best we can get until the county’s population stops being centrist and starts voting more left.

deweydecibel ,

I approve this in spirit, but is this safe from an audit?

deweydecibel ,

If you don’t see value in ownership, then yeah, you “saved” money. But that’s on you.

You’re also missing the part where they’re undercharging for the service in order to increase adoption, after which they will turn up the costs. So enjoy it while you can.

deweydecibel ,

You know dogs tend to move if you call them.

Also, just because we can see the dog through the window doesn’t mean the dog is obstructing it entirely. The driver would be looking down at that window from above, and at an angle. Entirely likely there’s more than enough space to see through the gap between dog and window.

deweydecibel ,

Well I’m sure he considered it, and has a plan to counter it, but if it goes to a jury…well, there’s a reason you should never opt for a jury trial.

Legit though, if you for some reason need to use Reddit on mobile:

Firefox Nightly > unlock the extended addon collection support > create an addon collection with uBlock, res, and Old.reddit redirect > import to Firefox Nightly.

Boom. Old.reddit on the phone, it never ever sends you to the mobile site.

Now mind you, it’s a janky user experience using old.reddit on mobile, and they’ll sunset old.reddit soon, but if you absolutely need it, there ya go.

Counterpoint: devs frequently downplay user’s needs and inflate the importance of their own ideas, and because they’re often in an echo chamber of their own team’s environment, they never hear meaningful kickback from anyone they respect (because they certainly don’t respect users).

Then they share this comic back forth literally every time users complain.

Someone, in the slack channels of reddit’s devs, shared this exact comic with this exact attitude because of the backlash. And it was met with the same approval as the comments here.

deweydecibel ,

That, truly, is indictive of every user complaint ever, therefore no complaint has merit.

Add code to your site to prompt browsers using "Web Environment Integrity", to use Firefox instead ( chaos.social )

Since it seems #Google has decided to uni-laterally force through their new anti-#adblock #DRM euphemistically named "Web environment integrity", I decided to add a little bit of code to my website that blanks out the page and displays a protest message with a link to the firefox download page when you visit it from a browser...

I feel like it might be worth it to open the sub back up just to post Mozilla’s official statement. This really, really needs more attention, and it needs it now. I’ve been patiently waiting for a thread to start blowing up on Reddit all day and it’s like no one is even posting anything.

Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Strange New Worlds | 2x07 "Those Old Scientists"

LoglineAn accident while investigating a time portal sends Ensigns Beckett Mariner and Bradward Boimler through time from the 24th century, and Captain Pike and his crew must get them back where they belong before they can alter the timeline....

deweydecibel ,

Sooooo many people that never watched Lower Decks are going to be asking why there was a koala in the opening and I’m delighted by that.

deweydecibel ,

Regardless if the actors or writers are present to promote, the event space is bought and paid for, contracts have been signed, etc. The event goes on with or without the talent present.

deweydecibel ,

I’m with the others that say it’s a really good episode, until you start picking apart some of the decisions. Pike taking the word of a person who has been suffering hallucinations, with no evidence, then preceding to destroy a massive infrastructure project with no real hesitation…it didn’t feel earned. I know he trust her, and Kirk, but damn that was an extreme leap of faith.

deweydecibel ,

By far the best moment was Pike’s face when he noped out of the scene after Spock revealed the deception.

deweydecibel ,

I can’t be the only one that felt Ethan Peck’s human Spock was very similar in tone to Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen…

Not in a bad way, either.

deweydecibel ,

Just curious, why are you @'ing? Is that a thing you have to do from a mastadon instance?

deweydecibel ,

That’s exactly what it is. They have an extremely narrow and boring definition of what Star Trek is “supposed” to be, and revolt against anything that steps outside that, be it comedy, action, whatever.

deweydecibel ,

It’s literally the only non-chromium browser left other than Safari. That’s why it is critically important that Firefox maintain a presence
