The trick is don't work for an outsourcing company?

falsem ,

Don't be a contractor. Unless you're unusually skilled or have a very exotic and rare niche that you're an expert in then being a contractor is a step down for most people in the software field imo. Look for direct hire.

I'm not low income but I do think McDonald's is pretty poor value for the quality. You can usually go someplace with much better food for the same or slightly more now - they're a long way from being 'cheap' food.

Seattle cold snap continues with temps in the teens, high of 25 ( www.seattletimes.com )

Temperatures fell to 14 degrees overnight in Seattle, ushering in a bleak and biting chill the city hasn’t seen for over a decade. Temperatures are unlikely to surpass a high of 25 degrees Saturday as a blanket of clouds settles over the city....

falsem ,

Gotta say I'm really looking forward to waiting for the light rail for up to 26 minutes with temps in the teens.

falsem ,

We tend to get one week of this kind of weather a year and the rest of the time it's in the 40s for winter. The one week is colder than usual this year though.

Living in the US I've never seen what you're describing

The Needling: Fashions to Keep You From Being Run Over By Speeding Police Cars ( theneedling.com )

Last week KING5 shared with you what fall fashions are totally out and not what to wear this season by being the first local news outlet to show you video of a young woman’s last moments of life before being smashed by a Seattle Police Department cruiser going three times the posted speed limit without a siren on. Hint: Black...

falsem ,

I ended up putting a small amount of reflective tape on my backpack last year after people kept getting run over (not just by police).

falsem ,

I would let myself become destitute before I paid that.

falsem ,

I don't know why OP posted that website instead of the actual source: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/27/business/training-repayment-agreement-debt.html

falsem ,

And posting their content on another website improves that?

falsem ,

I kept trying to see what the cars in the picture were doing wrong. Apparently they're mad about the Coke ad.

Trump’s attorneys like Alina Habba have amplified that bravado. Habba told Fox News’ Shannon Bream last month that the former president was so confident he would be vindicated that he’s not even preparing for his various trials. “If it was a normal person, honestly Shannon, I could understand the concern,” she said, adding that “You don’t have to prep much when you’ve done nothing wrong.”

Never heard a bigger lie about our justice system.

falsem ,

Yeah, that's the part I was referring to. It obviously requires a huge amount of prep to defend yourself in a criminal case even with lawyers. Most prosecuters aren't in the habit of pursuing cases they don't think they can win.

falsem ,

Is this like a successor to The Living Computer Museum or something?

falsem ,

Talk is cheap, I'll believe it when I see it.

If you plan to deadlift then get something to protect the concrete. You don't have to lift THAT heavy to crack the concrete.

falsem ,

Pressure won't build up, it will be let out by the pressure relief valve and make a mess on the floor. Which is also undesirable.

falsem ,

There should be a pressure relief valve that prevents any kind of dangerous levels of pressure buildup. The result is that they spill water all over the floor and make a mess but there should never be any kind of high pressure. This is really important because hot water heaters can trigger an extremely violent explosion otherwise.

Hopefully the deformation in your picture was just warping due to heat or something rather than pressure.

What's their burn rate that they're going bankrupt after 700M in cash?

falsem ,

Thanks for doing the math

I don't like the guy either but this is shitty source. "Some guy on twitter said a thing happened but you can't see it verified anywhere else now!"

falsem ,

The claim is that someone from his staff shared it on an official Twitter account, which is unverifiable. Unless you know some way to view deleted tweets that I'm not aware of.

falsem ,

Perhaps that threshold is too low then if this is what a "34" is.

falsem ,

Are you threatening me? Go ahead and ban me if this is how you want to run things. I meant it as feedback on the rules, if you can't take feedback on that please ban me.

I want to move to Linux but I need to be able to access my apps that are not supported ( kbin.social )

Hey, I use the Adobe Suite for daily use to build and develop posts and videos for multiple people and can't have my workflow slow down by learning a new application, I've looked into Linux a few times and want to really move over in the future but due to it not having support for Adobe, I'm not sure what to do....

Seattle front and center as Everett's Paine Field announces name change ( www.king5.com )

The county announced Tuesday that Paine Field's official name would be Seattle Paine Field International Airport, adding the Emerald City to the title. In a press release, the change will improve the airport's marketing abilities outside of the region and "reinforce its geographic proximity" to Seattle.

Good, don't want these scum to feel welcome anywhere.

It's amazing how much garbage gets shoved into the NDAA every year.

falsem ,

That was the original pitch for gold on Reddit.

falsem ,

Literally how the free market is supposed to work according to small government advocates. TFW no one wants to do business with you due to making your brand toxic.

falsem ,

I'd bet money that the engineering side wasn't ready by the original date.

falsem ,

RedHat is only going to provide source code to their paying customers. This is legally compliant with the GPL. This has made a lot of people mad because there are a lot of distros that are essentially copy/pasted Redhat code that people use.

falsem ,

And not all, there was plans to drop support for 32 bit libraries, which would make gaming with Steam really bad. Obviously this is not something everyone cares, but that was an important reason for many not to use Ubuntu anymore. Because of the uncertainty.

This contributed to Valve switching SteamOS to Arch.

Want to sue your landlord? Seattle-area tenants ran into a roadblock … ( archive.is )

Issaquah tenant Mary Marks, whose rent had shot up 23% in the previous year and a half, suspected the algorithm could be behind her rent increase. Her property management company, Avenue5, was named along with the software maker RealPage in one of the lawsuits filed in Seattle. Late last year, Marks wondered if she could join a...
