Canon Connections: DIS 5x01 - Red Directive

This is the premiere of the fifth and final season of “Star Trek Discovery”, the first iteration of Trek’s modern era. I think it is important in this moment to acknowledge that, regardless of individual opinions of quality the series – personally I am a fan, but this is not about my personal perspective – without DIS...

Maybe it IS Murf. Our stretchy boy ended up on the wrong side of the tracks

The writing of Kirk in SNW is fine but I just don’t think the casting is right.

flamingmongoose ,

Though there has previously not been any canon Chalnoth ships, the design here appears to be based on the ships seen on the cover of DC Comics’ “Star Trek: The Next Generation” , published in 1994.

This is really fun, I don’t think TV Trek should stress about “beta canon” but in instances when it can be used it’s nice

I know it is low budget but does the humour have to be so Family Guy?

flamingmongoose ,

Ohhh he’s the Speeding Bullet 2 Heaven Guy! This makes a little more sense now.

I need to listen to Kids See Ghosts, meant to be a classic, but Kanye is very offputting nowadays

Prodigy gets more star treky later on and actually has the most coherent season arc of the Kurtzman era (it introduces an actually interesting new species)

flamingmongoose ,

You mean Cogenitor? Yeah that wasn’t great

flamingmongoose ,

But at least we got more Kirk, right?! Right guys?

Can someone give me adivice on how/where to get back into star trek?

As a kid i loved watching the next generation and deep space 9 with my dad. Ive always liked sci fi, more of a (stargate fan) and wanted to get back into star trek, but Im just so lost on timelines and whats going on. There are like 6 kirks and I have no idea how/where to get started with watching this again.

flamingmongoose ,

Go back and finish Deep Space Nine if you didn’t watch it consistently, it’s great and probably the most adult Trek. If you’re looking for less of a commitment, Strange New Worlds is great. The only plot point you need to know going into it is

spoilerPike has seen his future and knows he’s destined to become severely paralysed

Discovery is pretty standalone but it’s a very odd show. Everyone is very emotional and every episode is super dramatic. Not to everyone’s taste but good if you want a Trek that reflects more modern TV.

Enterprise gets quite good as well, despite it’s flaws.

flamingmongoose ,

It’s alright, gets better from season 2 tbh

flamingmongoose ,

This sounds ridiculous. And I’m so down for it.

‘Dovercourt’ - perhaps aka Section 31 movie event - hits the ‘Rumoured’ portion DGC Ontario Hotlist ( trekcentral.net )

The Directors’ Guild of Ontario hotlist is a fairly reliable source for production guild news. Star Trek preproduction in the Greater Toronto Area usually shows up there before any official announcements of production dates....

flamingmongoose ,

Worf and Raffi dismantling section 31 while Georgiou fights then is this only movie I want to watch

flamingmongoose ,

I’d also add The Enterprise Incident in session 3

flamingmongoose ,

Strange New Worlds is pretty light hearted, this is a perfectly reasonable possibility for them

flamingmongoose ,

You might be right but you seem really upset

flamingmongoose ,

Enjoyed this very much, the tone was very creepy. Reminded me of the psychological horror episodes only TNG really did.

When did they cross the border? Pelia was in Vancouver
