When I rented I only had street parking. In that situation an electric car is just another thing to manage. If you've got a garage to park in, sure, even with a basic 220V outlet.
You'd think of all the people that could persuade members to change their minds it would be unions. Just point out who was running the DOL under Trump and who is running it now. Same with the Supreme Court, which is currently taking a case that could just outlaw the NLRB.
I think the main reason is that if you had an UBI, you’d be way more eager to join a union, strike, or quit a shitty job. They know their fortune is built on labour exploitation, even the supposed ‘tech’ companies.
The withholding is calculated by extrapolating how much you’d owe in taxes if you earned this amount for every paycheck. If you know how much you’re projected to earn over the year, you could ask whomever handles your pay to adjust it to the correct percentage. Either way, come tax time it’ll be settled and you’ll either get back however much you paid in excess, or you’ll have to pay a bit extra at the end of the year.
They’ve written one like that to every tech company. It’s probably just so they can repeat the conditions from before they got sued for colluding to depress employee wages. This has the same effect, except this time it’s not collusion, it’s doing their fiduciary duty because shareholders are demanding it.
He only got the job with Trump because it’s the only place that would hire him. There’s that saying that definitely applies here: A’s hire other A’s, B’s will hire C’s.
Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley is facing backlash after she was asked on Wednesday what caused the Civil War and failed to include slavery in her answer, instead saying the conflict was about state's rights. To them it’s woke history. A Republican from the north (eg. Chris Christie) might tell you it was the right answer, but if you’re from the South you can’t ever admit it.
I get it a lot when I’m using our work VPN (which shows up as an AWS IP address). I guess if you’re using a VPN or a less reputable ISP you’ll probably get stung more often.
They don’t have to spend it all, you know. If they can reward corporations for negotiating in good faith by limiting the damage of the strike, they’re retaining leverage. They can still go full strike later, but it looks like it’s not necessary.
I’m sure the UAW knows what they’re doing.
Besides, if they were to hurt the corporations too much, they’ll end up hurting sales of American cars, giving foreign competitors inroads. China’s car workers aren’t unionised, so importing those cars hurts unions everywhere.
He’s been saying what every central banker has been saying as well. It’s why they’ve been raising rates, they just phrased it in slightly softer language.
They will solve every economic crisis by taking from the working class and funneling that money to the rich. It’s how they fixed the GFC, COVID and now inflation. The wealthy are not to be made to ‘suffer’.
Remember when tech workers dreamed of working for a big company for a few years, before striking out on their own to start their own company that would knock that tech giant over?...
I don’t think anyone seriously had the ‘become a billionaire by starting a company and revolutionising the industry’ as a career plan. Most of us just switch companies every few years as a way to get a raise.
It should have long been obvious that Trump operates with methods familiar from the mob: He tried to make James Comey kiss the ring. He demanded that Volodymyr Zelenskiy do him a favor. He threatens those who try to hold him to account for illegal behavior (“If you go after me, I will come after you”). This pattern is not...
Ford pardoning Nixon is what allowed subsequent Republican Presidents to do a ton of illegal shit, knowing they’d probably get away with it. If Nixon had gone to prison, you think Reagan would’ve done Iran-Contra? Trump probably wouldn’t even have considered running for President of there was a precedent of actually holding them accountable.
Earlier in the pandemic many news and magazine organizations would proudly write about how working from home always actually can lead to over working and being too “productive”. I am yet to collect some evidence on it but I think we remember a good amount about this....
It’s not just the corporations renting those offices, it’s the politicians of downtown areas that fear a downturn in tax revenue due to more empty offices and less people getting their daily coffee/lunch/after work drinks.
And of course, if everyone’s working remotely, this means it’s a lot easier to find a better job without even needing to leave the house to interview, which gives employees a better bargaining position (downside is that employers will start looking at employees in lower paying countries as well).
It still amazes me how Trump keeps finding people that’ll work for him and somehow expect him to stay loyal to them, despite all evidence to the contrary.
