It doesn't matter what theme you'll use.

It doesn't matter what extension you'll use.

If that community will behave similarly before and after using said theme and extension, then maybe it's the community. Great example shown here from the "helper".

Even a small barrier to entry greatly improves the signal to noise ratio in discussions, so I view the (very) minor challenge of getting into the Fediverse to be a much appreciated feature.

It’s also why I am a big fan of Beehaw’s signup process, which ask you open-ended questions to answer.

Well I'm not communist yet I am here. Not everyone on Lemmy is one.

bbplay13 ,

Lemmy/Kbin user here. Hardcore Capitalist and absolutely hate Communism.

LambLeeg ,

Yeah, here it totally works. Couldn’t say that on Mastodon. Almost everything is left oriented there.

CIWS-30 ,

It's true. It's why I feel that Mastodon will never replace Twitter. It's too much of a left wing circlejerk / bubble, and they're actively hostile to even moderate viewpoints. much less actually conservative ones.

I'm probably in the minority in this, but I believe that even people I don't agree with should have a platform and be tolerated as long as they're reasonable and willing to compromise and show respect, as long as they're not racist nazi nutjobs.

The world isn't exclusively made up of one set of ideas, and you shouldn't shut out 75% of all viewpoints just because they don't agree with yours, imo.

AcumenDonor , in does anyone regret deleting their Reddit accounts during the failed protest?

I actually never got round to deleting my Reddit account but I don't miss it. As with Masto/Twitter there are a few things KBin and Lemmy haven't been able to fully replace for me but for like 98%+ of their stuff I don't miss those networks. And if I do want up to check some specific good account that never left Twitter or some reference material that's only posted in some subreddit ... well, we have Nitter and Geddit to gap-fill. In time hopefully they'll not be needed.

Like, I think the Fediverse has got the hardest thing right so far - actually having good vibes and good moderation. Don't think anything else on the internet has been this relaxing and troll-free ... ever - even pre-social media. More features and polish would be nice but given how much better Masto is now than in November '22 I expect KBin/Lemmy will also improve with time.

Thorny_Thicket , in Maybe it's fine to leave some people behind...

Well they’re not entirely wrong. There sure are plenty of communists here

Tigbitties ,
@Tigbitties@kbin.social avatar

Yeah, but are they communist communists or "everything to the left is communist" communist?

deweydecibel , in Maybe it's fine to leave some people behind...

Legit though, if you for some reason need to use Reddit on mobile:

Firefox Nightly > unlock the extended addon collection support > create an addon collection with uBlock, res, and Old.reddit redirect > import to Firefox Nightly.

Boom. Old.reddit on the phone, it never ever sends you to the mobile site.

Now mind you, it’s a janky user experience using old.reddit on mobile, and they’ll sunset old.reddit soon, but if you absolutely need it, there ya go.

ModernRisk , in Maybe it's fine to leave some people behind...

Let these people be miserable on Reddit. I’m worried if they come here, it’ll become more toxic.

LambLeeg ,

Well, Reddit is known to have a toxic community. I mean, when someone tells about Reddit irl then they get the “you’re an idiot” look from strangers. Like, we all know how deeply censored Reddit is. Now it’s dead for a slew of people in favor of Lemmy, ain’t it nice?

Remmy , in does anyone regret deleting their Reddit accounts during the failed protest?
@Remmy@kbin.social avatar

The fact that you have 126 comments on here tells me that you either have no life at all and live on social media or the protest worked as your using kbin quite often.

So tell me, @mutant, why are you spending so much time here? Did reddit ban you?

thingsiplay , in Maybe it's fine to leave some people behind...
@thingsiplay@kbin.social avatar

@esty To be fair, the suggestion to use these extensions is good. But I prefer Firefox. It was the only way I could use Reddit. kbin and Lemmy are useable by default, even though it has some problems too. And dense people are everywhere, in Reddit, in Lemmy, in kbin, in Twitter. That does not mean everyone is one. Just the chance to hit an idiot is higher on Reddit and Twitter, because idiots would never consider switching from mainstream and shit on others.

And that's good. Good people switch, idiots stay on Reddit. Best filter ever. :D

Oh, some of the assholes came here during the initial migration too. Plenty of them, but they get shut down quicker here

as far as I am aware there is no work around to avoid community guidelines or whatever by using "/s" on lemmy. some of the instances have strong moderation so don't expect you can just do whatever you want and be welcomed everywhere.

ScrollinMyDayAway OP ,

Well of course. No disagreement that rules and mods have to exist. But after a couple of months of seeing Reddit’s /r’s that I liked becoming shit/shutting down and my enjoyment of the site going down equally, the ban for a post not too far from my regular sarcastic commentary made me think “Know what, I’m done here.”
