btaf45 , in Sen. Ted Cruz's Jan. 6 Scheming Exposed In Newly Unveiled Recording

Reminder that Steve Bannon frankly confessed Trump's Start the Steal conspiracy plans to a group of Trump insiders before the election.

https://www.npr.org/2022/07/22/1112138665/jan-6-committee-hearing-transcript

…audio from Trump advisor, Steve Bannon, surfaced from October 31st, 2020, just a few days before the Presidential election.

Let’s listen. [Begin Videotape]

STEVE BANNON: And what Trump’s going to do is declare victory, right? He’s going to declare victory, but that doesn’t mean he’s a winner. He’s just gonna say he’s a winner. The Democrats — more of our people vote early that count. Theirs vote in mail. And so they’re going to have a natural disadvantage and Trump’s going to take advantage — that’s our strategy.

He’s gonna declare himself a winner. So when you wake up Wednesday morning, it’s going to be a firestorm. Also — also if Trump is — if Trump is losing by 10 or 11:00 at night, it’s going to be even crazier. Because he’s gonna sit right there and say they stole it. If Biden’s wining, Trump is going to do some crazy shit.

According to the United States Constitution, Article III, Section 3, “Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.”

Furthermore, 18 U.S.C § 2381, states that a person guilty of treason against the United States “shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.”

It's wild to me that according to our laws so many of these "law and order" Republicans should be either executed or behind bars, yet walk free and unscathed.

I hate how Republicans seem to be enthralled with new and exciting ways to hurt people. This isn’t what government is for, I want government to create policies to help people not just throw violence at people for some random reason. Can we outlaw making the government hurt people or something? Is that possible?

admiralteal ,

On the subject of trans civil rights in the US, we already have. It's explicitly outlawed in a variety of places including the Civil Rights Act and 14th amendment.

A non-corrupt SCOTUS would see these anti-trans laws for what they are: discrimination on the basis of sex. Already explicitly illegal. The problem is, conservatism has never cared about rule of law outside of when they can use it as a tool to get their way.

1chemistdown , in Can We Please Make Presidential Elections Shorter and Less Stupid?
@1chemistdown@kbin.social avatar

The difference between USA and the other countries with shorter election seasons is voting for a person to lead versus representatives who will elect their leader. Just look at off presidential elections to get an idea of a USA shortened election season. So, parliamentary governments have the citizens elect their equivalent of house and senate members; who then vote in their “president”. Good old US of A likes a cage match for the top spot, so you get the contestants parading around forever.

NotTheOnlyGamer ,
@NotTheOnlyGamer@kbin.social avatar

If only we actually did have a cage match for President, that would be more fun.

Yet another disgusting anti-American, unconstitutional, pro-Christian fascist law from the Republicans.

You summed it up perfectly.

So, the MRFF was created as a direct response to the threat posed by the Dominionists.

Dominionists want a Christian theocracy based on their ideas of the bible. They also have a stranglehold on Republican politics

So yeah, Republicans are crippling the MRFF as a favor to the dominionists

doc , in Idaho opts out of nearly $15 million that would feed children this summer. Why?

Sounds like government dysfunction rather than a conscious policy decision.

It’s unclear who ultimately decided Idaho would reject the funding and why. The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, one of two agencies that would have had to implement P-EBT, pinned the decision on the Idaho State Department of Education. The Department of Education blames the administration of former Superintendent Sherri Ybarra, who was voted out last year. Ybarra did not respond to requests for comment.

Idaho used these funds before, but even then limited it to kids under 6 years because anything more was too hard to administer (my summary).

xuxebiko OP ,

Government inaction influenced by coservative christianss who equate feeding hungry children ith communism, and geared to creating a desperate labour pool of child workers.

e_t_ Admin , in Opinion | Unfortunately for Republicans, the economy is improving

Republicans are unconcerned with the actual effects Biden policies have had on inflation. They'll simply say inflation is out of control, the economy is collapsing, and it's all Biden's fault. Their messaging isn't constrained by the truth; their voters will believe anything.

wagesj45 ,
@wagesj45@kbin.social avatar

I actually love it here in winter. It's so nice to put on a fire and be snug as you watch the snow fall. I grew up in Kentucky, and the winters there were just drizzly and chilly and gray and none of the fun stuff about winter but all of the yucky stuff. Not its best season, for sure.

AlligatorBlizzard ,

I love staying at home watching the snow fall during winter, it’s beautiful, but unfortunately the cold makes my joints hurt so it’s not as fun for me. Having spring and fall is fantastic though, before I moved up here I kinda assumed a lot of the “spring is amazing” sentiment was cabin fever from the months of cold, but nah, spring is pretty great in it’s own right. I grew up climbing the crabapple tree in my grandparents yard on summer vacation and had no idea that it bloomed in spring.
