You're a valuable person outside of a job. Life sucks sometimes. I hope you're able to get better

Except it's still inside the sun, so depending on how big you view the center of the sun it could still be wrong.

[Solved] Trees supposedly take 30 years *before* they absorb CO₂. Why?

I often hear science-adjacent folks stating that a tree needs to be 30 years old before it starts absorbing CO₂, usually paired with the statement that it’s therefore pointless to start planting tons of trees now for slowing climate change....

Jaytreeman , (edited )

Volume of a cylinder is πr^2Height
Assuming the height of the tree stays the same, let's say 100'.
Radius is 2' and then we have a 500 year old with a radius of 5'
2' x 100' tree has a volume of 1256'
5' x 100' tree has a volume of 7852'

Trees are made of carbon. Older trees sequester more carbon

The Democrats could change things now, but they aren't.
Not doing anything is being complicit

Jaytreeman ,

Biden could be using executive orders AND be pressing for more supreme court seats. That's without mentioning the hard tac he should have taken against sinema and manchin.

Jaytreeman ,

When fascists are knocking at the door, the time to play nice has passed.

Trump was on track to have the most executive orders in the recent past. Obama, bush and Clinton all had more.

Executive orders are an integral part of any presidency. It's literally how each president makes their mark

Looking for Movies that Showcase Positive Masculinity

Hey there, fellow movie enthusiasts! I’m on the hunt for films that portray positive masculinity. We often see movies with traditional, stereotypical portrayals of masculinity, but I believe there’s a world of cinema out there that can challenge these norms and offer a fresh perspective....

Katara had an entire character arc where she flipped gender roles.
She was also an active participant in the action rather than a passive emotional anchor

Unions are only the best if you believe there's good points about capitalism.

They are a bandaid solution to some of the more extreme problems with capitalism.

A better model is worker ownership.

Star Trek and The Orville, which is better/worse?

I asked this question sometime ago on The Orville’s subreddit, and surprisingly got mixed responses. I assume most here however, are going to prefer Star Trek, specifically TNG that its aping from. For the record I do prefer TNG as well, but rewatching The Orville, after you get past its kinda sucky first season, I really...

Jaytreeman ,

I watched TNG with my daughter. Every time there was a trans episode we felt a little cringe. Expecting a show from the early 90s to have horrible takes, but every time, they did well. Our cringe was misplaced

'it appears that we've lost all sexual attraction'

Jaytreeman ,

I worked in a government office that supported a very seasonal industry.
My coworker had an 8:30 start and would be done her work by 9.
Other times we wouldn't have time in the day to finish, but the slow season was hell.

Jaytreeman ,

My only pushback is how much evidence do you need? He's anti-latin, anti-gay, anti-teans and uses neo-nazi imagery.
Anyone that's willing to ignore one of those because it's not explicit enough, is highly suspect.

Jaytreeman ,

The people that can't have their minds changed are fascists. You should thank them for making it clear

Jaytreeman ,

I use rigid, and I've used them in a construction environment.

In my opinion, most of the impact drivers and drills are comparable, but the rigid nail gun is better than the DeWalt (hands down) or Milwaukee (down to preference). The funny thing to me is that the Ryobi nail gun is also much better than the DeWalt one.

You made a good choice.
