Taleya OP ,

I’m suddenly reminded of a mate who suspended his hdd on a rubber band. It went very well until the PC environs destroyed the rubber. damned thing snapped half his DIMMs on the way down

Taleya OP ,

It’s not per drive. Those all hold multiple drives.

Taleya OP ,

Gonna be a proxmox with a couple of jobbing boxes (nothing huge, mostly OS’ and testbeds that aren’t worth building a box for). Mine has two 3.5" internal bays, and five SATA ports

Taleya OP ,

Probably. Feel free to find your own that fit. I’m just going by what I’ve tested that works for secure drive mounting.

Taleya OP ,

…is still a bad idea because the issue is an unstable mount ill suited to the environs

Taleya ,

So by media server - you running plex/kodi/jellyfin etc , or is it just a bigass storage repository running shares?

Will it need to be able to perform encoding?

Taleya ,

he’s definitely good quality for your time.

Taleya ,

No it isn’t holy shit.

They did not come to ‘RECENTLY AIRED SEASON FINALES OF SNW.com’ they came to a general fan community and you violated etiquette.

Taleya ,

The federation sure gets trigger happy with the banhammer at times, look at the synths.

Taleya ,

DS9 clarifies this a bit:

DNA resequencing for any reason other than repairing serious birth defects is illegal. Any genetically enhanced human being is barred from serving in Starfleet or practising medicine.

And in regards to the ban:

Two hundred years ago we tried to improve the species through DNA resequencing, and what did we get for our trouble? The Eugenics Wars. For every Julian Bashir that can be created, there’s a Khan Singh waiting in the wings. A superhuman whose ambition and thirst for power have been enhanced along with his intellect. The law against genetic engineering provides a firewall against such men

Taleya ,

well by La’an’s birth there’s been no “interference” with her genetics. I know in Ad Astra she mentions carrying the augmentations, but we’re talking what, 200 years of distance. So spitball it as 8 generations. It would be fairly negligible at that point, so I don’t think it’s a rational fear on her part. It’s also highly likely that in the aftermath of the war Earth made damned sure the augments weren’t interbreeding, so you get standard human genomes just swamping it out.

Willing to bet that her genes got a thorough going over when she applied as well, and nothing flagged.

Taleya ,

Dude you literally grew up with a human mother get over yourself

Taleya ,

Just remember the truth of Futurama:

“79 Episodes, about 30 good ones”

Taleya ,

I mean, i’m not objecting to Cudi in the slightest but i remain extremely confused by what is occuring here.

Taleya ,

Not to mention have thr libbbbruuuuuuuls side with him would destroy the political career he worked so hard to polarise

Taleya ,

I really think the whole “trainwrecking yet-another romance leading to the eventual road to kolinahr” would have gone better with Leila instead of Christine (and been less canon denting) Ah well.

Taleya ,

Can’t believe you missed Take Me Out to the Holosuite!

Taleya ,

Does it still smell like hamster?

Taleya , (edited )

Oh they would. They definitely would

Taleya ,

Awww yiss i love it when boims loses his shit

    Uh, lots.

    lots.

Got given my mum’s TOS collection which started in the 70’s, and added my own ground floor DS9 collection (with some TNG classics in there like imzadi/Q-squared/Vendetta)

Star Trek and The Orville, which is better/worse?

I asked this question sometime ago on The Orville’s subreddit, and surprisingly got mixed responses. I assume most here however, are going to prefer Star Trek, specifically TNG that its aping from. For the record I do prefer TNG as well, but rewatching The Orville, after you get past its kinda sucky first season, I really...

    Taleya ,

That’s like asking trek movies vs galaxy quest

    Taleya ,

And the ATOS runs on a mirror pattern because…it’s an alternate universe

    Taleya ,

I clicked hoping for greendale and was not disappointed.

    Taleya ,

Ah but to hear the angry troglodytes easily brigaded Internet rankings prove no one likes trek because incoherent baboon noises

    Taleya ,

SNW remembered that 1) trek is hope and 2) Trek is fucking insane

    Taleya , (edited )

It’s also why so many people latched onto The Orville.

People like to say that TOS was a product of its time, but thematically it reached for the absolute stratosphere. DIS just basically played our own paranoid dysfunction in a new setting. Hell, chunks of it felt like 24 in spaaaace

    Taleya ,

Got goddamn women in command and some of them aren’t white!!!

    Taleya , (edited )

That’s actually how he did it. That’s why the first couple eps are kinda meh, then BOOM if the stars should appear, pria, krill, what the fuck just happened???

    Taleya ,

See that woulda been an hilarious spin. Just have the ship record his death and now the replicators won’t recognise him, doors won’t open, go the whole boimler / better off ted. Eventually they have to trick it by ‘re-hiring’ a harry kim to get him back in the sytem .

And now he gets no promotion due to being far too inexperienced in his career.

    Taleya ,

Coulda also done a great adoption parallel with Naomi finding out. Would have gone great in Voyager’s found family

Braga: ‘I still cringe when I hear it.’ Apparently, it was a long road to the franchise’s most despised title music ( www.slashfilm.com )

Working from the oral history in The Five Year Mission: The next 25 years, this is a fascinating deep dive that answers the question “How did a recycled cover of a 1998 song written for Rod Stewart, ‘Where My Heart Will Take Me’ aka ‘Faith of the Heart’ become the title music for Enterprise?”...

    Taleya ,

We all cringe, Braga. You’re not special

    Taleya ,

Option A had everything in one place (they weren’t just after Trek) for a single cost. Splitting platforms and increasing user costs while decreasing user convenience has now cost them income.

    Taleya ,

Xena pulled off a good one as well. And Psych’s was wonderful

Can someone give me adivice on how/where to get back into star trek?

As a kid i loved watching the next generation and deep space 9 with my dad. Ive always liked sci fi, more of a (stargate fan) and wanted to get back into star trek, but Im just so lost on timelines and whats going on. There are like 6 kirks and I have no idea how/where to get started with watching this again.

    Taleya ,

Snw & lower decks. They’ll get you started and you can pick up additional from there

Anyone else out there who actually really loved Discovery's S1 style of Klingons?

I am the kind of person who enjoys “big weird” scifi like Stanisław Lem. Stories about trying to relate to and find common ground with something so alien that the prospect of even understanding is basically hopeless. Star Trek usually doesn’t do stories that, which makes sense as it often uses alien races as allegories or...

    Taleya ,

I love the design and aesthetic…just not as klingons. Shoulda been an awesome new race of their own

    Taleya ,

The universe is balanced on the back of a giant cosmic koala! WHY IS HE SMILING? WHAT DOES HE KNOW??

    Taleya ,

Oh hon, your entire arse is showing

    Taleya ,

I can’t believe snw beat Orville to a LARP and a musical ep

    Taleya ,

Well, i don’t want a trek run on exploitation, so here we are.

    Get the studio’s arse, guys.

    Taleya ,

There seems to be whatculture UK and whatculture US and like almost always, uk one stomps its US cousin

What's your views on PIC season 3?

I’m currently rewatching it, and at first I admit I hated the season and didn’t understand all the praise it got, but on this second viewing, I am actually warming up a bit to it. It still is deeply flawed, with a lot of things that don’t make sense or could have been done better, but I kinda like it regardless. What do...

    Taleya ,

Oh a good character- or even actor coughmichaesheencough can absolutely elevate. And like you said, damn, that proper sendoff Nemesis denied us.

The main issue i have is it’s got the common problem witha lot of Kurtzmann treks (and into darkness) - cherry picking the high notes from the franchise, then misusing them.

Reusing trek threads can be amazing - what voyager did with Borg lore, hell, what WoK did with space seed! but there needs to be actual solid progression and daaamn did it fail. The fallout of the dominion war is something i would love to see handled properly, especially the implications of the fall from ideals under duress DS9 ran with. But Picard didn’t deliver. And as awesomely horrific as that Giger queen was, it was all sizzle very little steak.
