This is an issue that I know for a fact that is not specific to plasma, but I came here to ask for help since I run Plasma and I'm hoping that there is something I can change on the DE to fix it. Caps-lock is very slow and causes THis ISsue, and it is driving me crazy. I'm the person who can never learn how to use the shift to...
It’s vanity, and that’s fine. But affectation supposes something fake:
‘Affectation noun behaviour or speech that is not sincere’
To me that’s a (negative) value judgement. And I’m defending the point that there’s nothing inherently negative about vanity, unlike what’s being implied by our dearest Dr.
Show me a moderate Democrat in the US and I’ll show you a moderate right winger in the world. From a world perspective, the US hasn’t had a left leaning president in the last 30 years or more. The US lost its left at some point, and advocating for sensible policies became its new left. Outside looking in, Bernie is a centrist or at most left-of-center.
So if your reference is the full spectrum, the majority of the US population is right wing, a good portion of it radicalized fascists. Now if your reference is the severely skewed Overton window of the US, then yeah, all right wingers are fascists.
I see TNG with mostly 2D characters where the Federation and its ideals are the main driving force of the plots. When they deviate from that is when you get bad episodes (cough Sub Rosa cough). The characters had to shed some of their depth and become idealized for message to shine through.
On DS9, you have a gritty view of a frontier without the influence of the Federation. The evolution of the characters and how they react to the changing reality around them is the center stage, and for that you need 3D, flawed characters to build development arcs upon.
Then on DSC you have perfect 2D characters in a corrupt world and the show is about Michael Burnham but she’s also perfect and I can’t see what message they’re trying to send.
This show, like most trek, really found it’s footing after one or two seasons. The characters have depth and personality and don’t just exist for sake of the jokes.
I still struggle with some of the crass humor, but that’s because I’m rather particular about what I find funny. The last season was particularly good on character building and they did set it up for a very exciting new season indeed.
While there was an announcement shortly before the WGA strike, and Alex Kurtzman confirmed the writers room is back up and at work during an NYCC panel, Paramount+ is moving forward on promotional information about the forthcoming new ‘Starfleet Academy’ show....
It has happened before and it will happen again. TNG, DS9 and VOY once graced our screens at the same time, until interest waned and shows were canceled. Oh and Babylon 5 was there too, wasn’t it? There is such a thing as too much of a good thing.
Clearly there is some chemistry between the characters, but it often appears that Shaxs is putting up with a lot that he is not interested in, or is even finds unpleasant....
I don’t think it’s particularly good. It’s not bad, there is some good acting, the aesthetics are nice. I’m not a fan of the writing. The character arcs are good, but the episode plots themselves are quite predictable.
Working from the oral history in The Five Year Mission: The next 25 years, this is a fascinating deep dive that answers the question “How did a recycled cover of a 1998 song written for Rod Stewart, ‘Where My Heart Will Take Me’ aka ‘Faith of the Heart’ become the title music for Enterprise?”...
They’re supposed to sound like TNG Klingons. Everybody sang in the squeaky range. A variety of voices would have been nice. Ethan Peck’s a baritone. More than one note of Spock’s big number could have been there.
By that I mean that the basic premise being: that the means of (re)creating new technology is lost, the current technology around is treated as sacred and the function marred in elaborate rituals or prayers because they don’t know how to otherwise operate it, and to a lesser extent that new ideas or (often xenophillic)...
Strange New Worlds has been my favorite Trek since Next Generation, and if the quality continues, could easily be my favorite Trek ever. But with the e.p. wishing for more episodes per season, there’s a danger of diluting the show by adding weak episodes that would have never made it in a 10 episode season....
I worked hard at imitating the Leonard Nimoy Spock’s raised eyebrow for quite a while. I don’t regret the time spent practicing that in front of a mirror. I never mastered a fully raised eyebrow, but I can do a slight eyebrow raise....
What does that have to do with the research? I’m curious how they perceive themselves vs their contribution to society. I think it was a missed opportunity not to have included them, it would have revealed some insights not only in professional roles but in family roles as well.
With crews as large as Star Trek has, you know they couldn’t get along all the time. According to Star Trek icon Jonathan Frakes, the cast of one of the Star Trek series was particularly bad at one point....
I’m always in favor of putting your own title. You are sharing something, make the title about what made you share that. Reference the original title in the body of the post.
It baffles me to no end that a company will pull their own IP from their servers. It costs them next to nothing to leave that up for stream. That was the whole premise of streaming in the first place!
