This was originally allowed in the USA, but NHTSA banned it: https://www.teslarati.com/nhtsa-wont-allow-evs-to-have-unlimited-or-custom-pedestrian-alert-sounds/. Otter countries might still allow it.

Most because of their lease ending and wanting the absolute newest

Technology is moving so fast that this seems like a reasonable approach to me.

I'm not even going to fix that typo. We need more otter countries.

Unrelated to your question but which firewall app do you use?

dan OP ,

That sounds reasonable to me.

It wouldn't help with the URL though. Maybe I could write a script that uploads the image then puts the right URL on the clipboard, and "share to" the script.

My understanding is that 64-bit time fixes are only needed for 32-bit architectures, based on Debian's notes about the time_t migration project: https://wiki.debian.org/ReleaseGoals/64bit-time. 64-bit apps already have a 64-bit time_t, at least in Debian (and I assume Ubuntu too) with their standard compiler settings. It's mostly for 32-bit ARM CPUs. 64-bit architectures still need to be tested since build/code changes can unintentionally affect them too.

11th gen is just a few years old. Very different to trying to run something on a Core 2 Duo which is probably close to 20 years old.

I always say that owning a house is mostly water management - making sure water goes where it’s supposed to go, and doesn’t go where it’s not supposed to go.

This is interesting. Rheem used to be seen as a premium brand in Australia… I wonder if they’ve gone downhill.

Keep it on the “High Demand” mode so that it’s always using electricity + heat pump to heat the water.

How much more electricity does this use?

It’s not on a stand that elevates it off the floor either, so I’m guessing it’s not in California.

I feel like the reason , and the at large, aren't taking off has to do with the fact that they're actually social networks. People don't seem to want a social network, they want content platforms. People aren't using or or to keep up with their friends these days, they're using these apps to entertain themselves. And since and every other platform that used to be a social network began pivoting toward content promotion, I think society has forgotten what a social network is supposed to actually be anymore.

For what it’s worth, I use Facebook to keep up with my friends. I don’t use any of the discovery features like Reels. I have friends and family in Australia where Facebook is more popular than in the USA.

Right. I usually use lemmyverse.net to search for communities.

Do you know how old the roof is? If not, assuming your jurisdiction requires permits for roofing work, you should be able to find the permits for the house and see when the last roofing permit was issued. Some areas let you browse all permits online (this is the case in my area), whereas others are more old-school and require you to physically go to City Hall (or similar) and view hard copies of the permits.

Asphalt shingle roofs generally last 20-30 years. If it’s getting towards the upper end of that limit, you’ll want to consider replacing it.

Try to keep trees trimmed back away from the roof if possible.

I wouldn’t trust it with just one side in a stud.

This is the mount I usually use: costco.com/Kanto-40"---90"-Full-Motion-TV-Mount.p…. I’m in the USA, but a similar one might be available in your country. It’s somewhat expensive, but very heavy duty. Uses four or six bolts into the wall (across two studs), can hold up to 150 lbs (~68 kgs), and is fully adjustable - you can tilt the TV up and down, and swivel it almost 90 degrees left or right. I’ve got two of them - One with an 83 inch TV and the other with a 65 inch TV.

As far as I know, a Threads site is coming. It only just launched so not everything is ready yet :)

Yeah it’s changed focus a few times. They focused on music for a while, then pivoted to entertainment news. Surprisingly they still have around 100 employees.

Some years ago they “lost” a lot of data during a data center migration. MySpace was the go-to place for small indie bands in the mid to late 2000s, so a lot of music that was only available on MySpace is totally lost now. People didn’t get a chance to archive it, since MySpace didn’t announce it beforehand.

I say “lost” because my opinion is that it was expensive for them to keep storing all that data and so they just deleted it all and made up an excuse.

Time to bring back StumbleUpon and del.icio.us

Honestly I think a lot of it is that the Fediverse (especially Mastodon) wants to remain a small community relatively isolated from regular social networks, and a very big instance would ruin that. It’s very similar to Usenet when AOL customers got access to it (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eternal_September).

Some people are worried about Meta having their data, but anything you post publicly in the Fediverse is, by definition, public. A whole heap of servers have your data, and even today some of the federated servers could be operated by large companies. How would you know? My Lemmy server is federating with over a thousand others… I don’t know who runs all of those or what they’re doing with the data…
