i recently lost my job and it’s horrible being in the ‘unemployed’ class – you’re made to feel worthless, you have to take advice from people, perfectly well meaning of course, that are basically encouragement on digging your own grave - i love being in the position where i have to do some fake elizabethian courting...

I understand why people do it but it’s a superficial and bad metric. Some people are bubbly and excited all the time, meanwhile I rarely tend be visibly excited. Plus the way it’s gamed these days, it’s a better indicator of how much of a suck up someone is and how willing they are to fake their emotions.

There’s been an undercurrent of discussion I’ve noticed (and tend to agree) that C++ is not the most friendly language for new/outside contributors, even the newer standard you use. Is there an effort to bring first class support/documentation for another higher level language as well? e.g dart/ruby/lua/python/javascript/C#/go (whatever is most feasible)

that suggests if nothing else, that point needs to be articulated more. But also then, C++ with QT is a very specific skill people now have to learn to help out, as opposed to stuff that would be more universally useful

To whomever made Dolphin's "Extract here, autodetect subfolder" feature - I love you ( outpost.zeuslink.net )

I hope this doesn’t violate the low-quality rule. For those who don’t know, when you right click an archive in Dolphin, the extract menu has a “Extract archive here, autodetect subfolder” option and its absolutely brilliant! If you’ve ever extracted a zip, tar, etc and ended up with files splattered everywhere this...

I feel like the reason , and the at large, aren't taking off has to do with the fact that they're actually social networks. People don't seem to want a social network, they want content platforms. People aren't using or or to keep up with their friends these days, they're using these apps to entertain themselves. And since and every other platform that used to be a social network began pivoting toward content promotion, I think society has forgotten what a social network is supposed to actually be anymore.

I don’t know, apps like whatsapp are still mostly about socialization and communication.

Also I’ve never used snapchat but it’s supposed to be pretty social.

Personally speaking, I have no interest in socialization. I’m only on the fediverse for content and more importantly discussion on that content (though not in a social manner)
