The US government is telling everybody that inflation is 3.4% per year. That is not correct. Try 14.2% and that's about right. Source : gold/usd 1 year simple moving average.
I’ll accept without evidence that real inflation feels a lot higher than 3.4%, but proposing short term shifts in the price of gold, or any other single commodity as a better metric is just nuts.

I want to build a proper server with room for 40+ HDDs to move my media server to and have RAID 1. I know a lot about PCs and software, but when it comes to server hardware I have no clue what I'm doing. How would I go about building a server that has access to 40+ RAID 1'd HDDs?
I always see advice about which software to use and there’s always the advice that FreeTaxUSA is the best bang for your buck and does everything you need for when your taxes are “simple.” I’ve used and thought it was great for years. I had no trouble handling my basic W2 and mortgage interest deductions.
Where it got tricky was when I had stock income from RSUs. I found a “professional” who sucked, so I figured out how to do it correctly myself and never looked back.
Also, if you have multiple mortgages due to a refinance, that can get tricky; TurboTax has a nasty bug on this so you might want to pay for an hour of an expert’s time if there’s any new scenario you don’t understand.
Hello, I’m back with another question. Everything a read is telling me yes I can, but it really does not feel right so I’m gonna ask here for good measure. Can I run electrical wire through fiberglass insulation?...
Hi everyone, I recently landed a new job where the base 401(k) contribution for all FTEs is 12% of your salary. This is regardless of your contribution, with no additional match. I realize that this is unusual for most people and it is for me as well. In my last job, I got up to a 6% match so I maxed that out and didn't think on...
If you’re not particularly financially savvy, you should always put 10% into retirement in some sort of cheap index or target date fund.
Definitely do not fuck with individual stocks or god forbid, crypto, unless you are sure you know what you’re doing and prepared to lose 100% of your investment.
These US healthcare systems are effectively scams. Yes in theory they can save you money, however in theory there is no difference between theory and practice, while in practice there is.
If you follow the intentionally onerous rules, you might get to spend some of your own money on healthcare without being taxed.
Ask yourself why you had to jump through those hoops in the first place.
These are policies created by bad people to rip off ordinary Americans. Making healthcare appear affordable also deflects calls for universal healthcare like they have in every other developed country.
Basically HSAs are a scam put out by health insurance lobbyists.
For many years now I’ve had in my memory this scene from star trek tng where, for whatever reason, a group of British officers and Irish officers led by O’Brien start getting nationalistic and sing their respective national songs at each other.
