Oh yay! Happy birthday to a wonderful actress! It is mine too, and I’m going use this as some kind of brag, or at least a new way to wedge Star Trek into a conversation.

Damage , to Star Trek in Happy Birthday Terry Farrell

Happy birthday! Wish they hadn’t killed her character, so we could have her back in new treks

bionicjoey ,

Maybe they do that thing that Odo/Kurzan wanted to do where they reanimate the host from the memories in the symbiont and put it into a new body

VindictiveJudge ,

I still think there should be a show that opens with Jadzia and Shaw on the Black Mountain. Call it Star Trek: Revenants or something.

Fast And The Furious: Jadzia and Shaw

Revenant is probably my favorite Trek novel, it’s the only one I know of that stars Jadzia.

So let’s imagine a DS9 sequel series or TV movie is green lit and you’re the producer. Does Jadzia come back? If so how? Or does Terry Farrell come back in some other way? Or is she not in it at all?

RootBeerGuy ,
@RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

If its a sequel Jadzia won’t come back thought. Dax will come back.

@RootBeerGuy @Salamendacious maybe one of these trill introspection episodes where they talk with their past selves...

Salamendacious ,

It’s television. Things can happen. Trills didn’t originally have spots either. They just changed it.

bionicjoey ,

Trills didn’t originally have spots either

Are Trills mentioned prior to DS9?

Salamendacious ,
@Salamendacious@lemmy.world avatar

They’re in a TNG episode. The symbiote controls the host in that episode too. It isn’t a blending.

theinspectorst ,
@theinspectorst@kbin.social avatar

The Host - the one where Riker ends up hosting the symbiont.

gregorum , (edited )
@gregorum@lemm.ee avatar

Well, they call it a blending of the minds in that TNG episode (“The Host”), but once Riker takes on the symbiote, he doesn’t retain much of himself at all. He’s all Odan (the Trill character). Riker is only able to host the symbiote briefly before becoming very ill. Once the new host arrives, they take on Odan’s personality completely. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

The Trill were obviously in a prototype stage for that episode, as they appeared without spots, and with forehead ridges instead.

milkisklim ,

This is probably why Trill have to undergo years of training before joining, to keep their personalities more merged in.

It could also be that Dax prefers to be more passive in its relationship with its host compared to Odan. This makes sense because if the point of Joining is to gain new experiences, overpowering the host won’t let the symbiote learn.

thessnake03 ,

Didn’t they reveal the training was bs and anothrr way for the symbiotes to exert control? Ezri had no training and did just fine.

bionicjoey ,

Ezri constantly talked about how she would forget her own identity if she didn’t consciously reassert it.

c0mbatbag3l ,
@c0mbatbag3l@lemmy.world avatar

I thought the big reveal was that almost all trill could be joined successfully, but since there weren’t enough symbionts to go around they pretend that it’s only a select few that can?

milkisklim ,

I mean, she slept with Worf, which is the one thing she’s not supposed to do.

And like I said, there may be a difference in personalities between symbionts in how dominant they are. Plus Dax had lived through 8 pairings and knew Ezri wasn’t trained. It could regulate.

gregorum ,
@gregorum@lemm.ee avatar

Ezri did not do just fine. She struggled with it constantly, especially at first. No, the training was necessary. It was the exclusivity that was manufactured due to the extreme scarcity of the symbiotes. As it turned out, almost any Trill could join, but that would cause a massive rise in demand, so the Symbiosis Commission claimed only very few were compatible in order to keep demand suppressed and the symbiotes safe.

flicker ,

I always thought we really missed out on a chance for there to be a more intense overwriting of Ezra with Jadzia, or one of the other hosts. She seemed so meek! Give me a St. Alia situation, where the current host can't stand against the memories of previous ones, and make it more compelling than taboos and stuff!

gregorum ,
@gregorum@lemm.ee avatar

Aside from flashbacks or time travel, there’s always having Ezri do some sort of meditation/dream sequence/other Trill something-or-other wherein she encounters previous hosts, one being Jadzia. That’s happened a few times on DS9.

I know you have gotten quite a few answers already, but I thought I would help ease your worries. I work in industrial maintenance, and have been in quite a few square d panels. This is fairly common, and not indicative of an issue with the breaker. Nothing to worry about.

JakenVeina , to Home Improvement in Breaker normal or faulty?

Does the switch sit tightly in that on position, or is it a little loose? If it’s tight, I wouldn’t worry about it, myself.

Sovereign_13 OP ,

It’s tight. It doesn’t feel any different than any of the other breakers.

Fosheze , to Home Improvement in Breaker normal or faulty?

It’s just a cosmetic defect. But if you’re really woried about it then you could just replace it. Breakers aren’t that expensive.

Sovereign_13 OP ,

Thanks. Thought as much, just wanted to be more certain.

remotelove ,

It is absolutely just more cost effective, safer and better piece of mind to just replace the breaker. I'll take that route 99.99% of the time.

If you feel adventurous, there are a couple of ways to test that breaker without proper test equipment. The risks could be zero OR you blow your face off and burn your house down.

Find an open outlet at tap live to ground. This will produce some natural and organic indoor fireworks, but it should trip the breaker. If it doesn't, there is a small risk of welding the wires together and creating a very strange short condition, turning that entire circuit into a new heat strip. (Free money!)

Find two 1800W space heaters and together, on the same circuit, they should trip the breaker as well. (Breakers should be rated to at least 1800W.) This is problematic as well and I'll explain. There is something magical about space heaters as I have seen 2 or 3 run off of the same circuit before. I suspect that if a breaker is slowly warmed up due to heavy load it will change its characteristics, causing it to only trip at higher loads. (Absolute speculation on my part!) By default, I would replace the breaker if I saw that kind of load. Extended, and higer heat cycles will eventually damage the breaker.

halfwaythere , to Home Improvement in Breaker normal or faulty?

When in doubt return it and replace. Peace of mind is worth the effort.

mvirts ,

Agreed, especially if you can get a refund or free replacement.

CorrodedCranium , to Home Improvement in Breaker normal or faulty?
@CorrodedCranium@leminal.space avatar

It sounds like it’s functioning correctly and likely just a small cosmetic issue. I probably wouldn’t worry about it.

Sovereign_13 OP ,

Thanks! I thought it might be, but I was unable to find anything on the internet to confirm.

Breakers are just one of those things I’d rather not be like “it’s probably fine” and then find out it’s not, y’know?

schmidtster ,

Breakers trip internally, the switch is just there to reset it.

You can lock them on and they still trip.

    @BeneGesseritWitch@sh.itjust.works avatar

    I’m of two minds; in context these are great. Like the last one (the shining one) I’ve seen pop up in both autism groups and surviving narcissistic parents groups, and it makes sense there. Both of those groups of people have had people in their lives try to diminish them, and make them fit into other peoples needs and expectations. And a friend of mine in recovery posted that exact ‘place you wanted to be’ one. So in the right setting these work. But sharing them on linkedin erases the context and makes these seem more like the toxic positivity slogans you see the fitness gurus flood you with. So I think the real cringe lies with the original poster (not you, lemmy poster, you’re good 👍)
