Just wait until 3001 AD and the ban will expire. Since he's clearly not a fan of transhumanism or other such fields of study he probably won't still be around then to extend it.
In the US most woodturning/woodworking supply stores carry kits. In this case I took the guts from a Harbor Freight screwdriver, turned a new handle out of cherry, filling the cracks with colored epoxy, made a ferrule from a brass plumbing fitting, and put it all together. The handle is finished with Danish oil.
I’m more into metalworking and I’m not that good with wood, but I’ve made quite a few handles for files and other tools. I’ve used boiled linseed oil for finishing mostly because that was what I had but the handles get dirty and ugly almost instantly. Is Danish oil better in that regard or would you recommend something else for oily/greasy use? Oh, and your handle looks way better than mine, I need to step up my wood game. 😀
The only difference with the Danish oil is the addition of some varnish. Apply enough coats and it’ll start to build up and might help a little with stain resistance. Otherwise you would need something more durable like a film finish. I think maybe laquer or a CA finish would work well for oil/grease resistance.
Some people don’t put any finish on handles and let natural oils from their hands build a patina. If you don’t like the look then some kind of film finish is probably what you need.
I just try different handle shapes until I find ones I like.
i have a question in mind: are ddos attacks really cheap ? i mean attacking lemmy.world only is kinda pointless, rest of instances need to be attacked too if they want lemmy down, but i am no expert on this subject, so just asking :/
@kill How about creating a second Firefox profile dedicated to development? I did that for a different reason, to create a PDF viewer using Firefox. It has the right settings and addons only active when viewing a PDF. This idea could be used to have a dedicated development environment which does not interfere with your personal data and configuration. And you can back them up and restore individually.
Because you're literally browsing a magazine about that other site?
I agree that this particular mod getting banned isn't directly related to the migration efforts, but the overarching drama it's connected to is the main reason people are leaving Reddit for Lemmy. IE: admins becoming hostile towards moderators, developers, and redditors, resulting in an environment that the whole userbase is trying to flee. So even though I don't care about this "power-tripping asshole mod" (as another Lemming described him), I get how some people here might find the post useful and relevant.
Apparently awkward was responsible for a lot of the John Oliver spam in the subs he modded. Might be why he's finally gone now. He even contacted John Oliver on Twitter to cry about his suspension and ask for help lol See pic related
Of course they're claiming responsibility for the John Oliver thing. Considering their history, I doubt it. But even if they were involved, it's the community at large that was responsible for the John Oliverification of Reddit.
Already did. In fact I made a few and am working on getting the mod teams on Reddit to make the jump. I will then hand over the Kbin that is for them. I figured it would be easier if I have a place for them to land ready to go.
The R pops up for the same reason "no smorking" is a thing. That O sound can get a bit confusing depending upon what's near it and usual patterns. It tends to crop up when the O is a long vowel in the furigana. The L/R thing is everpresent.
I think that’s a British influence. Rs in English words tend to get transcribed into katakana as long vowels to resemble British pronunciation, like parking → パーキング or art → アート. For a Japanese person who hasn’t formally learned a romanization system but knows a decent amount of these English → Japanese word pairs, it seems pretty reasonable to try to reverse the process by turning long vowels into Rs when writing Japanese in Romaji.
