Here's what she liked, to save you a click: "My favorite things about Houston were the radio stations — the rap and country stations were both really good. I also adored the Tex-Mex and barbecue, especially the brisket breakfast tacos (oatmeal and acai bowls are common breakfast favorites in Portland)."

If you want to buy a home in most metro areas while paying off student loans and affording a family, yes, I could see that salary being what you need to be comfortable.

I think it can be both commercial real estate holdings, seeing what Big Tech and other prominent CEOs are doing and following their lead, and a way to cutt staff without official layoffs. (Since many people will quit rather than RTO since they no longer live close.to the office, or because they are close to retirement, or they take another position that is WFH or hybrid. I day this because those of some of the reasons my coworkers have quit rather than come in 2 or 3 days a week.)

I'm glad I'm reading your comment. I had just called Chase this morning and the Chase Sapphire Reserve is now $550/annual fee and the bonus is now 60k points (i think.ot used to be 100k, which is what I got when I signed up.for the Chade Sapphire Preferred card). I was interested in order.to get the bonus points but also for the Chase airport lounges - if I can't access those.lounges there.might not be any point (no pun intended). ETA: Can you use all of the Priority One lounges?

What other benefits do you get for that $550? Is the fee waived the first year?

Baby Boomers Are Overestimating Future Social Security Income ( www.bloomberg.com )

Baby boomers anticipate that 47% of pre-retirement earnings will be replaced by Social Security, according to results of an annual survey from the Nationwide Retirement Institute. But the reality for someone making what the Social Security Administration considers the average wage in recent years, about $60,000, is more like...

Seniors are a reliable voting block. So I believe that those social programs will endure. They might be diminished, but they will exist.

Very_Bad_Janet ,

I would guess that most Americans do not know that Social Security payments are considered taxable income. If you take out money from pretax retirement accounts and/or get a pension from your work, that plus SS payments could push you into paying income tax.in retirement.

This was predicted. No doctor is taking a chance to be arrested or sued, let alone losing their license to practice medicine in the state.

It doesn't just affect OBs or gynecologists. A general practitioner or an emergency room doctor could prescribe a medication and if that patient happens to be pregnant (and did not know it at the time she received the medication) and has a miscarriage due to the medication, that doctor could go to jail and be sued by every family member of the patient. It's common sense that they would move to states where abortion is legal and where they can provide the standard of care they were trained to provide, without fear of being arrested or enormous legal fees.

The only realistic therapist portrayal that I've seen in a movie or TV show is Steve Carrell's in The Patient.

Maybe at the end of each post add "Cross-posted at https://kbin.social/m/[email protected]" and the Lemmy equivalent?

Very_Bad_Janet ,

True, but if someone were to be banned in one community they can always join and make comments in another similar Lemmy community (or similar magazine on kbin). If they get banned on one instance, they cam join another instance. The Fediverse makes it easy to still contribute even if one avenue is closed.

As far as I can tell, there hasn't been any moderator overreach on Lemmy/kbin. Maybe everyone is starting off on their best behavior. Or mods are aware that the atomized nature of the Fediverse means they have only so much power or influence. Also, it could just be the communities/magazines I'm in but there haven't been a lot of heated arguments.

Very_Bad_Janet ,

I'm logged into kbin on a Firefox browser and I'm not really experiencing what you are. What browser are you using?

The demographics of Kbin | Survey ( take.supersurvey.com )

I'm curious about the demographic makeup of Kbin. As we are still in it's infancy I feel that most lean towards a certain way, so I made this survey just now to find out. I encourage you to join in, and you can skip any and every question if you so choose. You can view the results at the bottom of the page.

Very_Bad_Janet ,

Race was multiselect but picking more than one answer value did not display in the results. In that case it should've been radio buttons only for that question.

Very_Bad_Janet ,

Kbin is a part of the Fediverse and is similar to Lemmy. I have a kbin.social account and am replying to you from kbin. (I subscribe to a lot of Lemmy communities via kbin).

Tildes is not a part of the Fediverse. It is a text-driven private forum basically created and run by one person. You need an invite from a Tildes account holder to join. It's its own little island. am on Tildes a lot and really like it.

Deleting my Reddit comments was a strange experience. ( kbin.social )

It wasn't the fact that there was a limit to see 1000 comments but what they were. The vast majority of my 12 years on Reddit I spent talking about dungeon and dragons 5th edition (DnD 5e) which I started playing early in is lifestyle. It was my first role playing game and I got sucked into the Internet to learn more. Before my...

They could also copy the question and the substantive answers and post them on the Fediverse AskHistorians community/magazine.
