Indeed. All these cops LARPing as military don't have what it takes. It's why they are so trigger happy, because they are scared all the time.

And They Had A Plan

Back in 2023 I started a new game in #Satisfactory where I did set out (on a whim) to build the #BattlestarGalactica – and fair warning: I never finished it. I found some measurements of this iconic ship from the #BSG verse online, which is apparently something like 1.44km x 551m and converted this to 179.6 x 68.9 Satisfactory...

Don’t see a museum in the starboard flight pod. 4/10.

Just kidding, this is awesome! What a cool project. I know the exact feeling of running out of steam on a mega project in that game though!

You have no idea the mental gymnastics zealots can get up to.

My grandmother was a fanatical roman catholic and she swore that all the stories about priests diddling little kids were a conspiracy by the rest of the world to discredit Catholicism.

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

Absolutely true, but in my grandmother's case she was just a fanatic. She didn't socialize with anyone from the church anyway.

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

Some people are just incapable of escaping the brainwashing I guess.

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

Shouldn't be wearing it anyway, even if he had earned it, unless he's in uniform. He's just using it for political points and I hope it blows up in his face.

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

Just wanted to say I was thoroughly entertained by your anecdote. Thanks for sharing!

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

Can you guys hurry it up? Is there a GoFundMe I can donate to?

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

Sorry but giving kids full autonomy is not the answer.

Some things are the way they are because the alternative is worse. This is one of those things.

A question about Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. [Spoilers]

The whales Gracie and George were stated to have wandered into San Francisco as calves. Outside of feeding events which can include the famous bubble nets, humpback whale pods usually consist of a lone mother and calf (or calves) pairing with a trailing "escort" male. Humpbacks are one of the few mammals that can be nursing and...

Oh boy, have I got uncomfortable news for you about how nature works…

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

I mean, most people know that kicking a moving 2-3 ton metal object is going to hurt and probably not a good idea, but cops are special.

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

What in the hell am I looking at here? My brain is not processing this.

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

I really enjoyed Birth of the Federation which was a 4X game with rudimentary fleet combat. It wasn’t a perfect game but it was fun and had that whole TNG computer feel going on with the UI graphics and sounds.

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

I’ll check it out! Thanks

Why wait for Microsoft to catch up with what we've been doing for decades?

Get Plasma, a modern, fully functional, clean, privacy-respecting, non-intrusive operating system now, regardless from where you live and ditch Windows for good.

Office 2013 support ended in April. It’s EOL. No more updates.

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

I’m not a huge fan of most birds but crows are awesome and these little guys are super cute!

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

Yikes! I guess if you’re smart, you gotta be born ugly.

That’s what I tell myself anyway.

Can you offer investment advice? I'm debt-free, about to start earning $2k more per month than I need to survive. Please offer any suggestions for optimal investment method(s).

48 years old, currently have no investments. My net worth is my car and the clothes on my back, and I don’t ever want to be in this situation again....

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

I have heard you should make sure your financial advisor is a fiduciary. My understanding is they are legally required to advise you on things that are in your best interests.

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

I have no idea myself, was just throwing out what I’ve heard. But thanks for the extra detail!

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

Nobody with a good backup system has ever had these moments 😁

Been hosting my own email in my home with Exchange Server for almost 2 decades. I don’t recommend it unless you have experience and a MSDN account though.

Email used to be easy, but with all the anti spam and trust setup required these days it’s a bit more difficult for the inexperienced. You’re going to need to know DNS, SMTP, certificates, and have a plan for message hygiene (anti spam / anti malware).

That said, if you want to do it and can suffer some issues while you’re learning, go for it. That’s how you get experience. :)

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

This is part of the interview. It’s to see if you can deal with project managers once you get hired.

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

They did that to me. I’m in IT in a ‘critical’ (read - too expensive to rehire for) role for a large company doing forced RTO. I’m the only one on the team in my state, and not near any remaining offices, because they closed my building during COVID. My boss knew I was going to walk if they tried to force me to move, so they carved out an exception for me and I’m still WFH full time while the rest of my team has to go to the office 2 days a week minimum. The whole thing is toxic and destructive to morale. I’m trying to finagle a way to get the severance package because I want out of here before everything finishes circling the drain.

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

I’ll give you a hint, the first three letters of the answer are MBA.

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

Absolutely true. Cory Doctorow did a fantastic talk about this (among other things) at DefCon. Well worth a watch: www.youtube.com/watch?v=rimtaSgGz_4

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

Depends on the company. My shitty company is doing forced RTO, in a horrible way, but about the only thing they are doing right is giving standard severance packages for anyone who doesn’t want to comply.

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

I think it’s more common outside the United States. It’s incredibly rare to have an employment contract here unless you’re a high muckety muck.

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

Miele is high quality. I love mine. But you won’t find them in chain stores.

crimedad , to Home Improvement

Anyone else have trouble with these GE dishwashing machines?

Mine cleans dishes well enough, but the gaskets leak easier than any other dishwasher I've ever had. I replaced the gaskets a few months ago, but if a little bit of debris builds up then it's leaking again. Also, the racks are badly corroded, but the machine is only maybe five years old. Anyway, it's just kind of funny that my aunt is coming over tomorrow and the last time she was here she noticed the dishwasher was leaking.

@homeimprovement

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

They are more expensive but buy a Miele and never worry again. I love mine.

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

I’m just looking at cats.

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

It’s criminal how you are all treated because of purposeful under-staffing. Everyone needs downtime. The human mind does not go full throttle for 8-12 hours straight, and I’m well aware you often have longer shifts than that in a hospital! If medical staff had some downtime during their shifts, patient outcomes would improve, and not just by a little bit.

Trump Promotes Threatening Video: 'We Are Going to Do Things to You That Have Never Been Done Before' ( www.thenewcivilrightsmovement.com )

Overnight Donald Trump promoted a video featuring an extreme close-up photo of his face in black and white, and audio of him making an obvious threat: “If you f— around with us, if you do something bad to us, we are going to do things to you that have never been done before.” Trump “retruthed” […]

I’ll fight. Fuck these goddamn nazis and their false prophet. Conservatives aren’t the only ones with guns and military experience.

And we’re generally smarter than they are. I’m not worried.

CarbonatedPastaSauce ,

Because Microsoft is the absolute king of not enforcing better practices if it might inconvenience themselves or, to a lesser extent, their customers.

It’s been funny to watch them slowly change that philosophy now that they have all the pain of being the service provider AND the customer.
