🤦♂️ Any company found abusing children should be immediately shut down permanently. No fines. No discussions. No deals. No second chances. Just immediately put out of business, all assets seized and sold off with the money distributed to the out of work employees.
Punish the people in addition to the business. Anyone who knew, or would have any reason to know, the age of the child should be fined if they are given prohibited duties and jailed if any harm comes to the child while tasked with prohibited duties.
Nothing will happen if a business is put out of business, rich people will just scoop up the resources and continue on with a small cost of doing business. All corporate and business practices that harm people (employees or the public) need to have the chance of jail time for business leadership to discourage it in the future. It doesn't even need to be draconian, just consistently enforced at the individual level.
If they did that wouldn’t some other company just take over because their offer is more convenient for the end user? It only works by changing the rules of the game as far as I can tell, in modesty.
These are good points and possibly true, but we need to be careful. I haven’t formed an opinion on this particular matter with these three companies, but across the econony in many countries -at least in the US and Europe- we often see that the rules are fine, they are just not applied. (The bank failures in the US earlier this year are a good example: bank regulations might be good enough also for the US, but the Silicon Valley Bank and others were exempted from the rules … But as I said, I don’t know whether there is a similar pattern here.)
The best thing would be if end users would stop buying at such companies, however, no matter what the rules are. I fully agree.
Ten people were put into jail, mostly on outstanding felony warrants for offenses that included rape, domestic violence and assault, Diaz said. Two of the 10 were jailed on new offenses, including possession of drugs with intent to deliver and possession of a stolen firearm, the chief said. Police “might not have come into contact” with the suspects if not for the new drug law, he said.
So… 8 out of 10 of the people arrested were not arrested for drug charges, but for existing felony warrants. If they were only contacted because of the new law, shouldn’t there have been clear evidence that they were also using or possessing illegal drugs? Or are they just admitting that they openly accosted everyone in the area regardless of reasonable suspicion?
That said, @tardigrada, going forward, please use the original source as the link. This allows us to determine what we’re walking into in a way that archive.org does not! I’ve updated the sidebar to clarify.
Well, we can do that, of course, but then most people won’t be able to access the source. Not sure whether this is really makes a better experience. But that’s just my opinion. (Just posted the original link ofvthis article in the comments as you might have seen.)
This is not going to be received with nuance in “men’s liberation” (as a man I scoff at the very concept) but Happy Valley Oregon is in Clackamas County just southeast of Portland and even though they are a Portland suburbs they position themselves explicitly as an anti-Portland in terms of gender expectations. So you’re going to get a pretty skewed picture of what boys are expected to be, compared to even just literally a couple miles northwest in Portland. They went and interviewed the sons of the maga dudes who think everyone in Portland is a weak soyboy antifa cuck or whatever, of course those kids are going to say that they value traditional signs of masculinity and feel like they can’t cry when they are sad.

Has the city council released some statement on the matter? Where can I read the city’s position on this?
Oh, sorry, were my feelings supposed to be hurt or something? I was trying to be charitable and assume you’re not just an asshole, but then you went and admitted it.
And of course, this is exactly why we had the “norm” of presidents divesting themselves and placing their business interests in blind trusts.
Instead, Trump completely ignored that and claims his business was just running as normal and the fact that these foreign governments paid his business was just “normal business” (I’ve got a bridge to sell you for 400x over market price).
Just really demonstrates how openly corrupt he is and the contempt he holds for the rule of law and our principles.
