Hi @rdeets, I know it's been several hours since you've created this post, but the Mod Team needed time to discuss the nature of this submission. I would have preferred to give you very quick input on this, but this was a situation that we didn't anticipate happening and as such don't have a current rule in place.

It is apparent that you have posted content that you are the author of, for which a couple of us dislike the self-promotion and some of us feel indifferent/support self-promotion. It is clear that this is a self-published blog and not a reputable source of information vis a vis our media bias chart, in which case the Mods reserve the right to remove content based on personal discretion about reliability, not about viewpoint alignment. It seems as though the content of this submission is researched and balanced enough. However, the fact that it exists behind a soft paywall of sorts (intrusive pop-up on site encouraging registering at substack.com) rankles the majority of the Mod Team, despite the fact there are no other visible ads on this blog site. I also am going to point out that the publication date for this (July 11) is more than two weeks old, and the title is lacking a label, which is something I have commented to you before to please include when submitting to our magazine.

The Mod Team has decided not to remove this content at this time on the basis that we did not have any direct rules running contrary to such action, and that to create a rule today would be evidently reactionary to you in specific.

What I will add though is that we came to a consensus that content like this - though permissible here - should never be posted in the future as a Link submission, presenting itself on par with current journalism. Instead, we ask that in the future if you want to post content like this, you should create a Thread submission, label it "Discussion:"/"[Discussion]", include a title that is a clearly stated prompt or question to generate discussion, and then type something in the body of the submission to start the conversation in which you can include a link to your blog. By posting as a Discussion Thread, you gain the added benefit of checking the "OC" box (if present in the submission form from lemmy.world).

Ultimately, your blog meets our expectations as stated in the sidebar for educational/informative, but it should not be presented as tantamount to journalism. This is a research paper at best, and offers little to no analysis. The feedback provided in this comment passes absolutely no judgment on the viewpoint/skew of the content in this submission.

    @ Frog-Brawler

Edit to add: the Microblog feature of the Fediverse is a more appropriate place to promote your blog.

People think Elon Musk is an idiot (he is, but that’s beside the point I’m making) because he acts like the rules don’t apply to him.

The thing is, for the most part, they don’t. He breaks the law with abandon because he knows he can get away with it and what punishments that can and will be handed down to him will be so miniscule that he can hand-wave them away each time he’s faced with them.

In other words, part of the reason people like this are grand fucking idiots is because they’ve literally had no pushback, like ever, for their fucking chicanery.

What’s really funny is that you can actually replace the name “Elon Musk” in my first sentence with a litany of other names “Donald Trump,” “Rudy Giuliani,” and so on. There really is a whole swath of society who are the biggest fucking morons you will ever meet because they’ve been completely enabled by a system that refuses to punish them because they have money.

Dave Chapelle is now a rich piece of shit, too, but there was a point where it seemed like he understood this disparity in policing behavior. Considering this sketch was from around 2005, it’s kind of wild to see how things have only become worse and more brazen since then.

Arguably, the worse and more brazen issue is another nail in the coffin of “these motherfuckers are absolutely stupid as shit” because they think we can’t see through their charade and how much more out-in-the-open their corruption is now. They’re not even hiding it.

News: Special counsel received documents from Giuliani team that tried to find fraud after 2020 election | CNN Politics ( edition.cnn.com )

Among the materials turned over to special counsel Jack Smith about supposed fraud in the 2020 election are documents that touch on many of the debunked conspiracies and unfounded claims of widespread voter fraud peddled by former Donald Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani.

The judge for the Rittenhouse trial said he’ll never again allow cameras in his court due to how skewed and edited the footage was when presented to the public.

Trials are incredibly long and boring so the media cuts and edits things to add drama and entertainment, but that gives a terrible impression to the public about how the trial went.

Also, Hitler gained popularity in Germany after his trial and imprisonment for leading a failed coup attempt thanks to the attention the media gave to it. This is uncomfortably similar.

Copying my comment from the other threads:

reddit started trialing a "Community Points" program in 2019 in /r/ethtrader, /r/cryptocurrency and /r/fortnite , where posters and commenters could earn "Community Points" that were supposedly backed up with crypto that you could eventually cash out. They announced an expansion of the program in December 2021 but, afaik, they never actually did so. Which might have something to do with the fact that one of the /r/cryptocurrency mods made $10,000 by selling community points. I don't know if the program has actively continued since then; maybe someone who was in the three trial communities can say.

My point is that reddit has been working on something similar to this program for at least five years now. And this article isn't based on any announcement by reddit, but by someone examining their source code. It's possible that this code has been present for a while and reddit has leaked it's existence to try to attract back some of their lost contributors. Or even that it hasn't been present but they included the old code in the newest app release and then pointed it out for the same reason.

In any case, this article isn't based on any official announcement, and reddit has been "trialing" a similar program for over four years. I wouldn't hold out any hope that this actually sees daylight anytime soon, or that it'll work well if it's actually released.

Just send them an e-mail reminding them that the economics of the future are somewhat different, and money doesn’t exist in the 24th century.

    Galluf ,

On my experience, 90% of the time there’s more to the story than what people claim to be banned for. I’m not saying that 100% of that 90% of the time necessarily justifies the ban. But it usually changes the context significantly.

Recommend giving https://github.com/andrewbanchich/shreddit a try - it supports using the GDPR archive out of the box, no code changes required.
