on the other Kill the camera man

On an open, straight road, a giant tortoise can actually hit quite reasonable speed. ( lemmy.world )

(Not my image, so I didn't actually measure this buddy's speed, sorry. I don't know where this was actually taken or what tortoise species this is. This may LOOK like a left hand drive country, but do the tortoises know the traffic laws? ...that's another matter, you know.)

if it was a joke it would have been a gif and everyone in the comments would be like, "wow he's really booking it" or something idk I'm not a memeologist.

metaStatic ,

companies don't need to price it in because the consumers will just increase spending habits.

small studies like this don't work because people are heavily incentivized to save or pay down debt, knowing it's a study that can evaporate at any minute changes behaviors.

What we actually need is universal housing, I bet that's where most if not all of this money is going, right into the landlords pockets. The rich get richer.

metaStatic ,

unions are a band aid solution to capitalism.

Law of the jungle, Eat the rich.

metaStatic ,

You don't need a job you need to acquire currency. A job is just the easiest way to do it.

metaStatic ,

You're lucky to have a job; and you want to get paid too? Damn entitled Zoomers.

metaStatic ,

I guess if you do what you love you don't consider it work, amirite?

metaStatic ,

if your CEO had to work half as hard as you they would have a panic attack

What the hell is this shit? Instead of pushing for the return to traditional pensions, capitalism is celebrating the idea that Millennials and Gen Z may simply never be able to stop working. ( www.cnbc.com )

Traditionally, retiring entails leaving the workforce permanently. However, experts found that the very definition of retirement is also changing between generations....

I do the manual labour while machines paint and write poetry, this is not the future I expected.

metaStatic ,

A belief in the future is actually a foundational requirement of capitalism.

What we have here is neo-fudalism, where the points are made up and the people believe in nothing.

Hi, it's me, Wolves

the last democratically elected government was Hamas.

Democracy has been dead for a very long time, and with good reason.

Child poverty in the United States just more than doubled. You can thank Joe Manchin. ( www.motherjones.com )

Can't figure out why my computer defaults to the 1gig lan, rather than 40gig for connection to nas

So I was recently gifted some Mellanox 40gig network cards that I installed in my NAS and my desktop and connected with AOC fiber. I gave them both static IP addresses on their own dedicated subnet that’s not used anywhere else in my network. I was able to run iperf3 between both computers, and that worked exactly as expected....

I'm loving all this industrial action in America recently. Richest country in the world should be paying it's workers better.

First company to give their workers what they want without even negotiating gets me as a customer for life.

Braga: ‘I still cringe when I hear it.’ Apparently, it was a long road to the franchise’s most despised title music ( www.slashfilm.com )

Working from the oral history in The Five Year Mission: The next 25 years, this is a fascinating deep dive that answers the question “How did a recycled cover of a 1998 song written for Rod Stewart, ‘Where My Heart Will Take Me’ aka ‘Faith of the Heart’ become the title music for Enterprise?”...

metaStatic ,

I love that my love of Enterprise alienates me from the majority of the fan base.

Season 4 is objectively the best season of any Trek.

it was an 11 year habit that I replaced it with kbin overnight.

the fediverse is functionally more interesting anyway.

metaStatic ,

I've put my foot down on Tuesday/Wednesday as my weekend. the past year I'd be lucky to get 2 in a row.

This gives me a functional 4 day week but if I get rostered on Sunday I'm perfectly happy with that kind of money.

I think the rush to recreate communities is a bad idea. ( kbin.social )

If you recall reddits growth many of their communities evolved as offshoots of a single generic community. This made it easier for people to see discussions they normally would not get involved in, and once the posts in a similar category reached critical mass it moved to a sub Reddit....

metaStatic ,

I would go bankrupt perusing half of my interests but I love to watch other people spend money.

False equivalence, he's not being forced to do anything.

Lady is a shit stain let's be clear but she is well within her rights to refuse service to anyone on any grounds. in fact her being honest about her bigotry is a good thing as it allows others to avoid her.

metaStatic ,

True freedom is the realization you can literally do whatever the fuck you want.

(something something we live in a society ...)

I mean a DJ just plays other peoples music right?

While larger, more general communities are thriving on the Fediverse - I'm missing out on the niche communities ( kbin.social )

Gaming, news, tech, general literature. All of these are somewhat thriving, with a steady influx of posts and comments. At the same time, the userbase is sorely lacking for more niche communities. In my case it'd be stuff like poetry, yoga, religion, linguistics, meditation. Or many other communities I'd doubt they'd form a...
