The mod's response to Reddit, in case people don't want to go there:
According to them, your favourite subreddits going NSFW is too much for you to understand. The infamous Mod Code of Conduct messaged us, demanding we switch back, because “you’re likely confused by all the NSFW content you’ve been seeing”.
They didn’t allow us to reply, so we couldn’t explain that this is a subreddit for an 18+ game, nor has any of our content changed. This subreddit should have been NSFW already, but we’d never thought to change it until recently.
Until we change it back we’re in violation of Reddit’s sitewide rules. We’re not going to change it back, because this is a sexually explicit game, and also fuck them.
If we’re removed at least we got to go out on an fantastically fun flair event (don’t worry this won’t stop your flair from being added I promise), and if this sub changes back from NSFW then you know you’re no longer in control of it.
Rest assured; we have 77 fans all over Reddit, with r/lowsodiumcyberpunk being a decent fall back. We’ve never worked together on anything, but we’ve made an effort to stay on good terms with one another, and I trust them to take care of you all.

Trust me, before I deleted my account there were so many users in the sub salivating at all the unfolding drama. While they didn't participate in the blackout, I wonder how many migrated to Fedi. Might indicate why there isn't as much activity as I remember.

Compare it what it looked like two months ago. Back then I thought that sub would be the last one to still stand, before it too imploded. But no! Everyone who made that sub so funny already migrated here (love y’all, you beautiful fucks) and all that’s left are these sad excuses of posters and commenters.

There's also libreddit, which seems to be an entirely separate project to teddit. Kind of like the Federation, it's software anyone can run and there are quite a few instances out there

Reddit already got caught using ChatGPT to astroturf in posts supporting the admins, so I wonder if some of the people the mods mentioned popping in for drama are actually ChatGPT.

Dragon's Lair, when you look back on it, was a corporate grab in the arcade world. Disney-level graphics when all the other games were 8-bit, and the worst gameplay ever in an arcade game...because it was made by someone who'd never set foot in an arcade.

Gold originally was fine imo. Then it got out of control with so many different medals, some free, some cheap, etc. They made it so confusing and basically every post on the front page had some sort of award. They made it confusing and cluttered… At least they realized it was dumb.
I remember at one point, Talklittle mentioned the addition of rewards, and how he was against them, which was convenient since Reddit didn't give third party apps access to them in the first place. I know at one point I was able to buy gold in RiF, but that was gone the moment that Reddit introduced all the other bullshit rewards.

I’m only on reddit for a few select, very specific communities. If I ever find a replacement it’s over. Help with Immigration laws, teach practices, language learning ECT. I’m thinking maybe I’d like to start the teachers group over here.
Last I checked, there were at least 3 subreddits where cryptocurrency is being handed out regularly to active participants.
They’re called “Community Points”, and get a custom name for each sub (“moons” in /r/cryptocurrency, “donuts” in /r/ethtrader, and “bricks” in /r/fortniteBR.)
I don’t know how the other subs fared, but /r/cryptocurrency became noticeably gamed by actors attempting to maximize their financial gains.
It's certainly worth paying to hear American views over the rest of the worlds I would say. Reddit is on to a winner with that one for sure. American Reddit users like u/spez are so wise while we are so stupid.

Maybe not surprising, but they are probably shortchanging themselves by not allowing folks from abroad to contribute into the program. USians aren't the only content creators.
They're willing to pay idiots to ramble on but they aren't willing to pay international lawyers to straighten out all the paperwork so they can do this outside the US.
Reddit really is done. This will drive spam and discourage people posting original content as they will see it stolen and reposted by the karma farming parts of reddit. They already flood communities with crap; reddit seems to just be taking another giant crap on the moderators who will have to deal with the tide of people trying to manipulate the new system for financial gain.
The best content on Reddit is not by "top contributors" whoever they may be. It's the random helpful posts that you stumble across or find on Internet seaches, or the thought provoking posts and comments that push back against the hive mind. Generally I find most (not all but most) of the up voted and awarded content to be trash or low value. Moving to financially incentivise that show Reddit really don't understand their own site.
I actually improved my reddit experience back in the day by blocking the top creators and checking that top list every few months to make sure it was current. Instantly better!
Applying gold and awards will hold posts on the frontpage even if they're downvoted to oblivion. They're likely getting rid of them as a way of manipulating the narrative.
The number of people willing to die on this hill is actually quite surprising, and in a good way. So many people have made peace with leaving their subs, their mod powers, and even their entire Reddit accounts behind to fuck over that piece of shit running the place.
My mod team and I are basically not doing any modding. Whatever was in place is still in place, about once a week I clean the mod queue. None of us really login anymore. It’ll eventually become a dumpster fire but so far, it’s not too terrible from what I can see. We used to all be on there checking the top posts and making sure they didn’t violate the rules but, not anymore.
I’ve been wanting to leave Reddit since the fascists were allowed to have a platform there uncontested. This naked utter contempt for the users and mods of the site was the push I needed to finally do so. And whaddaya know, it’s people who have similar values to me that left, while the bootlickers stayed. Win-win!

One thing I’ve seen a lot of is comments wishing that Lemmy/Kbin had support for some sort of gilding. So it’s obviously a feature that people enjoyed using which means Reddit just has to enshittify it. This is the way.
Absolutely! Server donations are good for a single instance but I think a service that allows users to purchase gold/awards and awards the particular instance (with funds) that they get used on would help fund the Fediverse as a whole. I imagine implementing something like that would not be simple but anything is better than injecting ads.

But, outside of crypto, I don't see an easy way to make that happen and doing it through crypto would bring out the crypto bros and mega-anti crypto joe's in about equal numbers, which would suck (plus, who's to say that an instance admin even wants to deal with crypto to collect a few bucks).

Well there are 49 subscribed people on patreon totaling $170/month. Lots of people probably already have accounts set up which makes it a very low threshold to join.
Meanwhile on librepay, arguably more philosophically suitable, there are 11 subscribers totaling $13/month.

Why pretend we never measure value in things other than money? It's obviously a loss to the user experience for those who haven't moved to offer sites, and a loss to the knowledge base that users had built there. Publicly traded companies by their very nature have to prefer short term profits. It’s no surprise that Reddit does the same in preparation for going public.
If Reddit think small.communities are worthless then they really dont understand social media. Lots of users belong to big and small communities. I left Reddit because the small communities I engaged with are gone.
I'm not drawn back by the big generic communities - they've lost me from both. Multiple that up everytime a small community has fallen apart with a proportion of its users are gone for good, and you have a real problem.

They care about people seeing ads. And that’s it. I agree with you that Reddit is dying (very slowly), but there are millions of dollars to be milked before the platform is fully dead. And for everyone like you and me, there are thousands who are there for the generic communities. Most people on Reddit don’t post or comment, those don’t strike me as someone who would enjoy being part of the niche communities.
I'll be honest I was kinda waiting for r/CyberpunkGame to do this, given the lean of the game (even if you went with the most Corpo-ish ending, it was still kinda anti-Corpo). Good on them for taking a stand.
As a nomad, I finished the game leaving Night City with the Aldercados & Judy. Seemed the best ending...haven't tried the others yet. I think that's the most anti-corpo ending you get out of the game.
My first ending I killed myself because I didn’t understand the two options it gave me. Option I selected was something like “end it” and I thought it meant like go to the final fight 💀
The other endings are definitely worth going through! Thematically, I think the secret ending is actually the most possible to be canon (i.e., going out for all time in a blaze of glory), but in terms of character development, I agree, The Star ending with Judy and Panam is the most cohesive.
At least until we get Phantom Liberty. From the trailers, it definitely looks like there's gonna be a continuation or development in V's story. And I don't want to read too much into it, but if you remember the base game's launch, almost all the cinematics/graphic banners featured a male V. But he was switched out for female V in the marketing of the game sometime during CP2077's great fiasco. It's been all female V, even up to now.
Speaking about Phantom Liberty it reminds me. I finished the game prior to the patch that included items about David. Do you know if the events of Edgerunner are supposed to occur canonically during the events V's experiences, or afterwards?
I played it on release for PC. It was good, although it felt incomplete. Bugs weren't as bad for the PC version as they were apparently on console, but they were there. New expansion is coming out soon, so there is probably going to be a sale then. I'd imagine the new expansion will improve (I hope) the things the game got wrong.

It's still not at all the game that they originally sold people pre-release though. If you go into it thinking that you're going to be getting an action looter-shooter with some interesting mechanics and great visuals then you'll get pretty much what you're expecting.
Going into it buying CDPR's line about it being the "next generation of open-world gaming" and "Evolution of RPG's" or whatever crap they were spewing, will leave a sour taste in your mouth.
The main campaign and side-mission storylines are just flat-out great though.
CDPR have always been good at doing the storytelling side of things, and that didn't really change with Cyberpunk.
Total fraud on release though, especially on console. Fuck them for what they did there.
For transparency, I'm referring to how it is currently on PC, where you also get mods if you want them. I couldn't comment on the console experience as I haven't played it.
Definitely wait for a sale though if you do one day go for it, I don't think it's good enough for the full price. Too many things are still lacking, although the upcomming DLC may fix that (which still means paying extra to fix the shit that should have been in the base game since release... Yeah).
I've been playing it over a year now. Once I was able to snag a PS5 and Playstation put it back in the store I picked it up.
MUCH MUCH better playing than launch...r/cyberpunk2077 used up a lot of salt throughout its tenure as a subreddit. Yet most the extreme hate the game drew was due to the insane promises CDPR made prior to launch. I'm personally not buying the DLC coming out in September until after it's released because of the botched launch, however I do expect it's going to run a lot smoother than the game's launch.
BUT as a base game, if you can pick it up on sale now, by all means I recommend getting it.
I would probably wait and see if they release a “Complete Edition” that comes with the new expansion pack and grab it when that’s on sale. The game is fun, but I personally feel like it’s a “one-and-done” sort of game.
There's been talk that the upcoming expansion for the game (Phantom Liberty) will kinda overhaul some of the game's systems a bit, and make them closer to what was originally intended or hoped for. If you're still on the fence now, I suggest waiting a few more months, seeing if the DLC makes good on its hype, and grabbing everything then.
